A dear little house, steeped in history, lovingly and meticulously restored to provide comfortable, uncluttered luxury in high-ceilinged bedrooms and spacious, gleaming bathrooms - nothing twee, "olde worlde" or "faux" to be seen anywhere. Crisp cotton sheets and big white towels that have actually felt the sun and fresh air on them as they dried. Underfloor heating for unslippered feet. Comfy sofas by a real wood-burning stove, baskets overflowing with books, the soft gleam of wooden floors, a wall of French windows opening onto a sunny deck, a wall of espaliered fruit trees and a glimpse of the sea beyond. A long farmhouse table set around with antique country chairs. Freshly squeezed orange juice, home-grown tomatoes, free-range eggs straight from the farm and muffins straight from the oven just some of the goodies on offer for breakfast, along with the morning papers.
All so good, so welcoming and so laid back , we just had to stay a second night - and we were sent on our way with more fresh muffins when we did leave.
This is a B&B with character, comfort and style. We felt so at home here, sitting around the fire with a bottle of wine before (and after) dinner, taking long and lazy weekend breakfasts, talking to owner Sue about local history, restoring old buildings, gardens and more, coming in to the warmth after a blustery autumn day out and about around the district, and feeling so snug and secure as a howling Bass Strait gale blew up on our last night.
With three B&B rooms in the house, all en suite, 2 with queen sized beds and 1 with a king that can split into singles; a little garden bungalow that offers simple backpacker-type self-catering accommodation and an outside bathroom; and - available soon - two self-catering units that can sleep 6, Rodondo offers a variety of accommodation for differering budgets and requirements.
Currently, the Backpacker cottage rates start at AU$50 a night for 3 people.
The self-contained units will start at AU$140 per night.
Three of us travelling together paid AU$180 for our first night and AU$160 for the second for a twin room and single occupancy of a queen room in the house, benefiting from a special "mother-in-law" rate for the second room.
