Jugendherberge Auf dem Stintfang has for sure one of the best views of all hostels and even most of the hotels in Hamburg : My main picture was taken from their terrace, facing Landungsbruecken. When arriving at Hauptbahnhof, you simply take U3, S1 or S3 to St.Pauli Landungsbruecken, get out of the station, walk up lots of steps and you are in the hostel.
Prices are moderate and depend also upon your age :
tourists older than 27 years pay 3 euros more than young people.

The Youth Hostel "Auf dem Stintfang" is situated on a little hill so you have a great view on the harbour of Hamburg from inside as well as from a big public view point terrace. It is situated centrally next to the lively quarter St. Pauli. The subway station Landungsbruecken is just a few steps down. It has been remodeled in a modern architectural way. The Hostel has about 370 beds in 2- to 8-bed rooms, most of them with a bath with shower.
However - as many youth hostels - it is closed during the night between 2 and 6.30 a.m. which is not that cool for the fun-factor: Either you are home early or you party the whole night. It surely is a great location for school classes. You will need a youth hostel pass.
Unfortunately, the homepage is just in German, but you might get an impression by the images.

I only ended up at this fantastic hostel because the Campsite i was going to stay at was a bit rubbish. At least i wasn't disappointed here! I stayed in a 5 bed dorm (the cheapest available), and was payin 19 Euro's a night, including breakfast and bed linen. The hostel has a fantastic location, being right behind the LandungsBrucke S-Bahn, so is easy to get to.
Exit the station to the Right (just before the bridge), and head up the stairs right next to the exit, all the way to the top. It's right in front of you.
Fantastic views from most of the rooms, Oversize chess board in the communal room, a comfortable Bar, good breakfast (Rolls with Cheese & Ham, Cereal, Tea), and it's within walking distance of the center of town.
