 | Beirut Monroe Hotel Reviews | Tips 1 - 4 of 4 | | | | | | Monroe Hotel: Central and modern
Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
I didn't stay at the Monroe, but I've attended several events here-- a play, a reception..and I've had close friends staying at it a few times. Its located right next to the Phoenicia Intercontinental, and quite close to the Beirut corniche. Its a stylish, trendy hotel. Its rooms are new, yet they are small (in lebanese standards) or meduim (european standards)..Although this hotel is very close to the sea, there are only a few of the suites which overlook the sea..the remaining rooms face either the Starco area (in the direction of downtown)..or the Phoenicia Hotel. The lobby isnt very spacious, but its comfortable..and the hotel usually has a play running on weekends..and then on all days of the week, you can enjoy having dinner at Al-Awtar, a lebanese restaurant in this hotel -- with a belly-dancer, music, food, shisha and all! All in all, I say its a good hotel..if you want to be close to everything, and you're not willing to spend all you have on Le Vendome or the Phoenicia Inter.
- Close to the corniche - Close to the downtown area - Close to Hamra ...basically, a central location for tourists. Friendly staff, stylish presentation, all necessary services including wi-fi, a very pleasant 4 star hotel. Rooms are a good size with quality inclusions and great bathrooms, including bathtub. The hotel design focus is nicely modern and slightly overt, which is what you want from a contemporary, art style hotel. We stayed in April 2007 and had a great time. Staff were helpful in arranging hire cars and providing information when requested. The hotel staff even organised a delicious cake and bowl of fruit while we were out of the hotel at dinner, because they noticed from my passport that it was my birthday. This may or may not be unusual but it made us feel very welcome. Location is a good one at the start of the Corniche with views over the Mediterranean, and one of the world's maddest intersections. Prices seemed very reasonable to us everywhere in Lebanon... the tourist industry is still suffering from last year's troubles and there is plenty of competition. We paid USD100 per night, including a good breakfast, for a double room with excellent views. We would happily stay at the Monroe again anytime.
