The Edgewater: My favorite hotel in Seattle   Compare Rates NEW!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • This is one of my favorite hotels on the planet.
Since I like this place so much I doubt one hotel tip will do it. Maybe a travelogue w pix later?

At any rate, don't let the pic fool you. This place is unique in style, ambience, and most of all the views from the waterside rooms.

Make SURE to check out the Edgewater website
    to see it all.

    So what is the catch?
It's expensive. If you're a good negotiator or if you can scare up a deal, you may get a good waterside room for under $300 /night (that's including the $40/night room tax).
    Ouch!!... I know but

    a) any and all Seattle downtown and especially waterfront hotels are expensive;
    b) you get what you pay for.

Everyone from the Beatles to William Jeff Clinton has stayed here at one time or another, and so should you.

the most important Edgewater suggestion I can make:

From literally years of staying at the Edgewater, my advice is you have to get one of the good waterside rooms ...

    the good rooms imho are:
356, 358, 360, 362, etc. - (all "evens") up to the best one on the end, 380 (my fave).....
the matching 2nd-floor numbers 256, 258, etc. are great also.
The above mentioned rooms all have killer bay & sound views, fireplaces, and hang way out over the water. They will give you the most for your money spent.

Look for or have a travel agent try to get you a deal, and treat yourself to one of imho the best experiences not only in Seattle, but anywhere.

Note: if your choice in a hotel must be modern and filled with chrome, plastic, plexiglass, windows that don't open, etc. don't stay here.

At upper left is the ugliest Edgewater pic I ever took in my life. Check out the hotel website to see what it really looks like.

PS... Thanks and a tip of the hat to Mark Edwards and Susan Jones (front desk), two of the best and most helpful pros in the hotel business. You guys are the best.

Luxury and personality, actually in Elliott Bay over the water,
with great views from the waterside rooms,
(not to mention the notorious multi-coloured & often-photographed davequ martinis prepared by the legendary Mark Edwards in Edgewater's SixSeven Lounge).

Temp controlled and individually set gas fireplaces in most of the rooms, and don't forget the bizzare & eccentric bear footstools and teddy bears on your bed.

You used to be able to fish from the windows of your room (now banned following but not necessarily because of the infamous Led Zeppelin "mudshark" incident), but you can still feed gulls by hand from your windows, and the views of the Seattle waterfront, Elliott Bay, and Puget Sound are truly memorable.

I must have taken 200+ pictures during my last stay in mid March and I'll post as many as I can.
Most or all of the pictures of Elliott Bay and Puget Sound on my Seattle pages were taken looking out the window of room 358. The higher the "even" number, up to 380, the better the view gets.... all the rooms from 362 thru 380 were getting refurbished with the new, upgraded spa-style bathrooms. Construction should be done by June.

Good food and great views from the restaurant, outside deck, and SixSeven Lounge. The staff and management really care about making you happy, and they've never failed me yet.

I've never personally stayed at the edgewater but I was born and raised here and know this is one of the best hotels in Seattle. It's gorgeous inside and out, the perfect romantic retreat.

Right on the water about a 5 minute block from Pike Place and the waterfront.

  • The only hotel in Seattle located on the water, although they are currently building a Marriott close by. Rooms are small but cozy with electric fireplaces. Four stories, interior corridors.

I'd say the best feature is being located on the waterfront and the balconies. It almost feels as if you're on a cruise ship. Puget Sound is very busy, so it's nice relaxing on the balcony watching watercraft cruise by.
The lobby is stunning and rustic with high beamed ceilings, a fireplace and great views of the harbor.
Rooms are expensive but worth it if staying for a short period of time. We were only there one night.

  • We lucked out being here when Seafair was in town. Watched many navy ships cruising by. Observed numerous watercraft of all sizes from kayaks to an aircraft carrier. The ferries are quite numerous and run all day.
Ok, ok there are no boats in this pic.

The Edgewater: Want to stay where Elvis...   Compare Rates NEW!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Want to stay where Elvis stayed? Fish out of your hotel window? Stay at the Edgewater! It's along the water below Pike Place Market, look for the enormous red neon 'E'. Many famous people have stayed here.

    $149-$210

Fishing out your room window. Elvis slept here. Antler chandelier.

The Edgewater: THe Edgewater Hotel   Compare Rates NEW!
  • Tip Rating:
  • The Edgewater Hotel is THE best hotel in Seattle. First of all the loction is about a 6 block walk to the space needle and in the opposite direction about a 6 block walk to Pike Place market. The Hotel itself is gorgeous. The lobby is very inviting and unpretentious. The hotel itself has the appearance of an upscale lodge with a little tech thrown in. The rooms ar comfy and inviting with a nice plush bed, fireplace,Teddy bears, and roomy bathroom with one of the best shower nozzles I have used. But the big thing is the view. The Edgewater is built on a pier and extends into the bay. Definitely ask for a water view and you won't be dissapointed. You can open your window and jump into the water if you wished to, there is no ledge and the views are beautiful. You can wake up to the sounds of seagulls and sip your coffee looking at passing ships, ducks swimming by, views of snow capped Mt. Ranier, fish jumping up, just beautiful. The restarant in the lobby is also next to the water perfect for Breakfast or dinner. There are many stories about the Hotel also. The beatles stayed there ,Elvis and many other celebrities , ask your concierge to fill you in. The price is about $200 a night. When I first got to Seattle I stayed in a less expensive hotel to sace some cash and spent my last 2 nites here. Well worth the price.

Located at the edge of a pier. If you have water view room you look down and can see the fish swimming. It's awesome.

Came here with my mum for the weekend. Actually was a bit suprised when I won this for 135 a night on Priceline ebcause I'd heard so much. We were also coming back to Vancouer by cruise ship and the hotel is right by the terminal so it worked out great. Of course for $135 you don't get a waterfront room but the city view if that what you call them were fine but nothing special given the expensive rack rates. The room we had was an african theme. I had pre requested a room with two Queens and I was happy to find that our request had been fulfilled. The bathroom was looked great but was a little impractical with the freezing cold slate floor and the water from the shower seeped out on to the floor. Also there's no bath so don't go expecting a long soak in the tub. The beds were great but if you have the rooms towards the main road they don't tell you that its right by a rail track and trains pass by every hour or so. Its not noisy enough to wake you or stop you sleeping but it was wierd having it pass so close by given the cost of a regular room.

Location and the view of course!
