'SS Shota Rusatavalli": The Ship was a floating Hotel
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • We were experiencing 5 1/2 weeks of life at sea !
After leaving Southampton we sailed through the Bay of Biscay (which was relatively calm)
then on to Las Palmas (Canary Islands) where we went ashore for 1 day then next stop was Rio De Janerio, (fab) then three days later, Beunos Airies.
I shall continue to hunt for piccys of these exciting places.
We were running short of money to buy films by this stage. And besides, not many people want to see our pictures ! Till we came across VT !

Lots of sunbathing on deck and wonderful swimming pool.
Unlimited views of ocean (most of the time).
We were fortunate not to encounter any real storms.
There's nothing like a floating hotel.

Casa de Famila: An Acceptible B&B in Ushuaia

  • Playing in the Ushuaia park near our B&B - Tierra del Fuego

The B&B we stayed in Ushuaia has two names, one apparently legal and one possibly not: Casa de Famila and Los Notros, respectively. I recently got an e-mail from another place in Ushuaia called Los Notros that appears to be much nicer and therefore is not happy about the confusion. Until this is cleared up, be certain you are talking to the Los Notros place that you want. From my experience, it's likely that you want the place I didn't stay at, though I don't know what the price/amentities trade-off is.
Casa de Famila was a somewhat shabby place, with four bedrooms and two shared bathrooms. It was clean but basic. Unfortunately, the people that run it and live there smoke, so the uipper floors are heavy with the scent of cigarettes and the occassional undissipatated cloud. But, on the good side, they were very helpful and earned many points for trying (fruitlessly) to convince us not to take the Train to the End of the Earth. They were also a short walk from a grocery store and the center of town.
"Tourista" the owner said, making a stamping motion toward her forehead.
Even better, the let us store clean clothes, clean shoes and suitcases in their B&B while we went off hiking in the wilderness for four days. That really made the logistics of trip planning easier. They also requested a hiking itinerary for us, in case we didn't return on our appointed night, which showed consideration for our well-being.

They own a cat who watched the Super Bowl with us (in Spanish). They also made sure that they served us tea and cookies every time we walked in the door.
