 | Tucacas Reviews | Tips 1 - 3 of 3 | | PROS: - Ensuite rooms are large - Rooms are lined on 2-storeys, motel-style - There is a shared kitchen downstairs which is quite spacious and with ample storage space - There is a huge courtyard - Owner Norbert, from Germany, organises boat excursions to Parque Nacional Moroccoy CONS: - Tucacas is a one-street town, one side leads towards the dock and this side is busier with more restaurants, shops, nightlife. Then, the town is sliced apart by the highway. The other side away from the dock is mostly residential and this is where the hotel is. Here, things are definitely quieter... which is great, as it frees you from the harrassments of the randy locals, but can be a tad dark as you try and make your way home at night. There is a Chinese supermarket at the street corner where the bus drops you. Walk ahead a few blocks and ask around. At one point, you need to turn left.

I spent there only a night, the room was nice but not too much big, with the window ont hte main street.....during the day may room was noisy becasue there was a covered column coming from the restaurant...probabaly the ac of the reestaurant. the posada is near the gate of the Park, where there is the bridge that connect the coast to one of the park Cayos...this is a perfect location if u don't want to take a boat for the cayos cause u can walk a littel or take a beach porpuesto to go to Punta Brava or Punta Suanche. I arrived Satuday at 2 o'clock so after a quick shower we went there to take the first sun!
AC, Tv Cable, Hot shower..but rememeber to ask the room seaview: my room was ont hte main road an at 5 o'clok am of saturday there was 15 crowded buses waiting the open of the park ( 8 0'clock)....so salsa , merengue and noise in the road was my EARLY wake up! The posada haven't a garden or a relax area, so if u don't want to stay in the room u have to go in the street...the restaurant is one of the best fish rest of Tucacas. 90.000 bolivares is to much for a noisy room! When the light go down... or better when they go out (read: the nearly daily blackout) trhere's not much choice of a hotel. We drove into Tucacas town at dark, and all was in pitch darkness... The posada we had chosen was in pitcg daarkness - as the owner said: l^no light - no water.. maybe manana! Well, the only hotel which had lights and a very precious generator) was the Gaeta... simple, clean and with a wonderful air-conditioning system: so noisy that it killed the traffic on the road
Basically the fact that it always has light... which is an excellent reason to go there... every night we spent in tucacas - the light just vanished.. not for some minutes... not even for an hour... but for many hours (basically all night). No light=no air conditioning.. and Tucacas is ultra-damp.
