Rogan Josh, palak paneer, chicken tikka, chicken jeera, prawn masala....... oh, the spices are fresh, divine and the whole experience is wonderful.

Under the misguided impression that I cooked decent Indian food, I was knocked over by the quality and taste of these two restaurants. What a delight! Haandis is the heavier "cooked in ghee" style of curry and accompaniments, Anghitis is lighter cooking, but no less tasty. Washed down with a cool Tusker beer, we ate royally and as often as possible....... Rogan Josh, palak paneer, chicken tikka, chicken jeera, prawn masala....... oh, the spices are fresh, divine and the whole experience is wonderful. |

In Westlands, relatively safe area, but DO watch out for groups of trouble..... when getting out of the car, park in front, avoid the street/parking boys and pay the uniformed guard about 20Ksh to look after the car, pay him an additional 20 when you leave. Food very tasty, good quality, nice atmoshpere, pizzas excellent, rice dishes even better, good house wine, or buy a bottle of Gato Negro red wine, drink only the bottled water..... Safe, courteous, and they ALWAYS find you a table, even if you haven't booked. tagliatelle carbonara, prawn gambietta Just freshly cooked, extremely tasty...... |

The tamarind is the best restaurant in Mombasa and it's particularly well-known for its seafood dishes. Many people had marvelled about it that we decided to go there for our final lunch... everything was perfect. the luxurious building in Moorish style, the food, the view over the sea and the old town... thrilling! We've had the msot perfect lobster we've ever had: huge, delicious... and served with a light cognac sauce that I'll never forget. We had some veggies and rice cooked in coconut milk as a side-dish. |

On the road are many bars for a stop to have a softdrink or water. You have really to drink a lot in this climate. This one in zebra colours on our way from Tsavo to Amboseli National Park we liked very much. |

During our stop-over in Lake Nakuru National Park, as we drove from Lake Naivasha to Molo, we enjoyed a great little outdoor lunch (one must keep the children fed and happy!). We had some simple sandwiches washed down by a Tusker beer in my case and flavoured drinks for the children. It is always nice to eat outdoors to savour the African experience, enjoying the smells and sounds as much as possible while you have the chance! |

Everyhwere on the road are bars, cafetaria's for a drink or lunch. It's a lot of fun to make these stops in the little towns and villages. In the south west of Kenya near Kisumu we made a stop at the Oyugis Cafetaria. The kids were very curious and liked to speak with us. |

A gem of a restaurant! This little place is wonderful: it's located in a small house in moorish style and in the distance you can see the vasco da gama monument/pillar. It's also a very intimate and romantic place. We had some smoked sail fish as a starter and it was really tasty - but the highlight came from the lobster: perfectly grilled and delicious. As a dessert there was a trio of tropical fruits sorbets - a bit risky, given the fact that we couldn't be sure that the water had been purified - but we could not resist: our tastebuds and stomach rejoiced - nothing nsty happened. |

Be warned the plates are piled high, pizza, pasta, plus a variety of other dishes. Forty Thieves is a great meeting place, live music each Sunday lunch time, the beach, discos, and sail boats for hire. Not to mention a fantastic location to enjoy a meal against the backdrop of the ocean lapping at the soft white sands of Diani Beach. |

I'll note not about a specific restaurant or food but about what I had there was like. They serve you quite good dishes not only in the hotel in Nairobi but also in a lodge or a camp site. The taste suites to western people but I don't know where the strange meats and the strange vegetables cooked there come from. Crocodile, ostrich, zebra...etc I love all the african dishes. Since this trip, I have become acquainted with an african restaurant in Tokyo for over 10 years. |

| Shasha camp: Voi, near Tsavo East | | |

Shasha camp is a camp + open-air restaurant just few minutes away from one of the entrance gates to Tsavo East NP (the Voi gate I think). it's beautifully set into the African landscape and surrounded by towering acacia trees and a tropical garden on the banks of Voi river. Don't be fooled by the animal "skins" you'll see hanging on the reception desk: they are painted fabrics. Shasha camp is a good option for lunch when in Tsavo: because it's located outside the park it's cheaper than park's lodges and restaurant: the food was simple but good - and thew had two musicians playing african music while we were eating |
