 | Lesotho Transportation | Tips 1 - 10 of 19 | | Popular Transportation | Other Transportation Tips | All Tips (19) The best advice would be to hire a 4x4 for getting around the country as the roads in Lesotho are on the whole quite rough. If you don't have a 4x4 vehicle you will not be allowed to drive up the Sani Pass from S.Africa into Lesotho. Our vehicles and drivers were hired from the Cape Town based "Just Done It" 4x4 tours company. Leave a Comment

If you are travelling by car, full it with petrol in Maseru (the only petrol-stations in the country). Even if you are going to explore for just a few kilometres (just in case, full the car of petrol!!!). Distances are unclear in Lesotho and while in your map it says 20 km, it can be 50!!!! and sometimes they run out of petrol in some petrol-stations... so sometimes you can not buy petrol just when you want... Don't miss a pony-trekking in the beautiful mountains. Sometimes it is incredible that horses can walk in that mountains... See more information in must to do activities. It is absolutely breath-taking. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

Fly to South Africa, then Drive into Lesotho via Free State Province, or maybe from KwazuluNatal via the Woreld Famous Sani Pass. Ponies are the answer, but if you're really in a hurry, tey what in the photoo Leave a Comment Theme: Other

THE SANI PASS IS FOR FOUR WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLES ONLY. I HAD TO PARK MY RENTAL CAR AT THE TOWN BELOW, AND PAY 75 RAND FOR A DRIVER TO TAKE ME UP, AND SHOW ME AROUND A BIT. HERE IS THE DRIVER CHATTING WITH ONE OF THE MANY SHEPPARD BOYS SCATTERED AROUND THE HIGH PLAIN. THIS ONE TALKED MY DRIVER OUT OF A CIGARETTE... Leave a Comment Theme: Other

There are some excellent tar roads and some of the dirt roads are good and can be negotiated by a sedan vehicle. To explore and see more of Lesotho a 4x4 or high-rise pick-up with differential lock is recommended. For the more adventurous a mountain bike is the answer to enhale the clean crisp air. This is real off-road motorcycle country. See Lesotho Travelogue. Leave a Comment Theme: Motorcycle

To travel the nearly 3000m asl Sani Pass in or out of Lesotho is an experience. Be alert however, during rains or snow, as it can become dangerous to negotiate. Leave a Comment Theme: Motorcycle

Until Star Trek transporters come into vogue, the only way to get to Lesotho is by plane. Combis (the Lesotho equivalent of a taxi.) are readily available, as were buses. The thing to keep in mind is that the objective of the combi drivers is definitely not YOUR COMFORT--this goes for the bus drivers as well--so don't be surprised that, on your next combi ride, that your packed so tightly that you would be envious of a sardine. I hired a car in Johannesburg and drove through Lesotho. You can get around to some pretty neat places with just a two-wheel drive car (which I had) but that might limit you from remote areas. There are also minibuses that run all over the country, which would probably be fine for anyone with the time to wait around an extra day or two if there is no bus. Roads were generally good, and even the unpaved roads were fine in winter. Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor Home
