There are two major ways to get to São Tomé e Príncipe via Air. One can take São Tomé e Príncipe Air or Air Gabon from Libreville the capital of Gabon. They have flight 5 days a week to and from Libreville on either Air São Tomé e Príncipe or Air Gabon. Direct flights from Portugal are available from TAP Air Portugal and go once a week. The “national air carrier” Air São Tomé e Príncipe (KY), is now a subsidiary of TAP Air Portugal (because KY’s one and only plane crashed in 2006 so TAP stepped in ) and it operates flights regularly between São Tomé and Libreville and between the Islands of São Tomé and Príncipe.

But -- Starting 12 Feb 2007 The new air carrier for Sao Tome and Principe, STP Airways, is due to start running intercontinental routes with an inaugural flight to Lisbon, Portugal, using a Boeing 737-700 with a capacity for 120 passengers on Mondays and Fridays.
Finally Air Luxor use to does flight two days a week from Lisbon leaving Lisbon Mondays and Thursdays and returning Tuesdays and Fridays. No longer does this

São Tomé Intl (TMS) is about 5 km/ from town and the cost was about 8 Euros when I made the trip to the hotel and the center of Sao Tome city via Cab. But as a rule you should check before you get in the cab. It cost only 5 Euros to go from the hotel back to the Airport. |

A car – actually a jeep - is a must for trying to enjoy the bet features of Sao Tome. We rent a jeep for a week with reasonable price from xxx, a Dutch guy, who later helped us invaluably when our camera was stolen and we need police verification about the theft for insurance company. Gasoline is quite cheap compared to other utilities and on the other hand, the whole island is not so big you can burn bensine a lot at all. Driving is very easy at Sao Tome. Most of the roads are asphalted and with jeep you will able to go everywhere, including the only beaches to the north of Sao Tome. One thing you should remember, as the roads are quite curvy, that after every curve there can suddenly appear chicken, children or cow to the middle of the road. Also, faster local people like to eagerly pass you and your car, and they might pass your car in occasionally quite surprising situations. So be prepared to instantly drive to the right edge of the road - and to the midddle of chickens or whatever. |

First, how to get in Sao Tome. Best way is to fly from Lisboa(Porugal) with TAP-airlines. It is the only european airline that flies to Sao Tome(one stop is in Djibouti, Ivory coast). There is only one fly a week, so get your tickets advance, because the plane is usually full. Alternative is to fly via Lagos(Niger) and from there for example Air Gabon or Air Nigeria. But those days the things were so hot in Niger, that we choose TAP. |

Car rental office Black&white, Rua padre martinho pinto da ronha. Tel/fax (00 239 12) 22 238. They speak excellent english. The best way to move there is rent a car. There are no public transportation and only few taxis. The roads are mainly in bad condition(big holes etc.), so rent a four wheel drive jeep. Car rental Black&White rents Jeep Wrangler for a 55USD/day, for example. |

From London it takes about six or seven hr, with one stop. There are only a few flights per week. Walking is the norm. No rental cars are available |
