Rukweza, wonderful people
  • Tip Rating:
  • Before we went to ''our'' house we visited the house of an aunt of Shyiet, but she was not home. The little cousins who were home, were shy and curious at the same time to see us.
We sat for a while in the centre of the village on a wall to look what's going on. There was a local bar at the other side of the street. Only three visitors at that moment, two playing a game and the third was watching
I forgot my camera, I left it behind at the wall.
Fifteen minutes later a boy of the village brought my camera back to ''our'' house !
Otherwise I couldn't have showed these pictures of Rukweza.

    Rukweza, mill
  • Tip Rating:
  • After the visit to the waterpump, Shyiet showed us the school and brought us to a building, where a lot of women were gathering.
The girl introduced us to the women and they demonstrated us the collective grain mill.
The women had a lot to laugh and to chat. It looked like an important meeting point for them.
Everywhere we came the inhabitants were very friendly and hospitable. We felt very welcome.

    Rukweza, interior hut
  • Tip Rating:
  • After showing a lot of the village with its daily life and its beautiful surroundings, Shyiet brought us to the house of famlily of hers.
In this house we could have a look in the kitchen at cooking time.
In the late afternoon round dusk, it was getting colder, so the family warmed theirselves at the fire.

    Sleeping Giant!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Our last full day in HWANGE PARK. How
could anyone guess we would find a lone
HIPPO sleeping in this water hole.
Craig had parked the truck hardly 10ft away.
He took a bottle, and lightly tapped it
under the water. Craig must have know he was in a DEEP-SLEEP! The HIPPO never moved.

    Rukweza, rockpaintings
  • Tip Rating:
  • After a short walk from the village Shyiet showed us some rocks behind some bushes.
Big surpirse, at these rocks were very interesting rockpaintings. We saw a lot of animals and some hunters too.
Shyiet and other villagers accompanying us couldn't tell us, how old the paintings were.

    Rukweza, waterpump
  • Tip Rating:
  • After arriving in the village Rukweza, we walked into the village. Shyiet, the girl who guided us, showed us the collective water pump of the village. This pump was normally a meetingpoint in the village, but at the time we visited, there was nobody around.
We drunk the fresh water. It was safe to drink.

    Rukweza, housing
  • Tip Rating:
  • In Rukweza we saw round huts with walls not made of mud, but built with bricks. The huts had thatched roofs. There were also a lot of square concrete buildings in all kind of sizes.
Maybe a pity we didn't sleep in the huts, but in a large square shaped house in the centre of the village, where we had electricity, running water, a toilet and a shower.

    Rukweza, village stay
  • Tip Rating:
  • During our trip in Zimbabwe we stayed for two days in a village, Rukweza.
We could sleep on the ground in a big house in the centre.
It was not easy to find the village. We had to turn off from the highway, 10 KM after Nyazuru. Two times we choosed the wrong track. The unpaved roads became very narrow and we saw a lot of tiny villages with round huts.
After one or two hours we found the five boys and girls of the village, waiting for us at the crossroad. Ten minutes later we arrived in Rukweza.

    Picture:
Shyiet, the girl who showed us the village,
welcomed us together with her grandma and little brothers.

    Rukweza, landscape
  • Tip Rating:
  • The village Rukweza is very small, so everywhere we had a nice view at the peaceful landscape. We also really enjoyed to walk outside the village, to have a look at the fields. The people coming from their fields or other villages greeted us very friendly.

  • Tip Rating:
  • That 7 mile hike, it was hot. Having a hard time finding wildlife! We went to another water
source! As you can see again. Not much there. There was suposed to be a CROC,
but no luck. Everything is so dry now. Just keep walking and BEATING THAT PATH!
Thats the fun of it. You never know!!
