Waiting for us down by the jetty when we board the Sundowner Cruise, is a small group of traditionally clad singers and dancers with a jungle drum and a strange musical string instrument. One of the musicians comes on board with us, acting as scout on the front of the boat as well as playing for us. Leave a Comment

David Livingstone (1813-1873) is probably the most famous explorer of the african continent. Among his many discoveries, he followed the mighty Zambezi in search of a means to access the interior of Africa. Accross his way came the great cataract. There's a statue of him in the Zimbabwean side of the Cataracts Park. Leave a Comment

Thomas Baines was born in l820. He was an explorer, cartographer, diarist and scientific observer of fauna and flora and member of David Livingstone's Zambezi Expedition from 1857 to 1859. There he made some phantastic drawings of the waterfalls that you can see at: http://www.booksofzimbabwe.com/vicfallsprint.html Leave a Comment

The ethnic huts in the Falls Craft Village canalso be visited inside. Inside you can see traditional objects and nice decorated walls. In one of the huts you can consult a nanga or witchdoctor, if you wish. Also you can see craftsmen at work. Leave a Comment

Africans are very much into trading for western stuff. Had I known they are into that, I've brought old clothes and small things to trade for local arts and crafts instead of buying. So definitely a few old things you can ditch along the way for souvenirs.

Bargaining is a way of life. So get used to it and don't be afraid to walk away. But do have a sense of humor because ultimately who cares if you spend an extra dollar on a carved elephant.

Youd better brush up on your negotiating skills before heading to any of the tourist markets. A little bartering can see prices come down as much as 75%. Second hand clothing is also a popular means of payment. Leave a Comment
