 | Bandar Seri Begawan Off the Beaten Path | Tips 1 - 10 of 17 | | Popular Off the Beaten Path | Other Off the Beaten Path Tips | All Tips (17) A rare and interesting place, it features a freshwater swamp. During rainy periods it fills up like a lake, and in drier spells the waters recede and the valley becomes covered with sedges. There are shelters, footpaths and a 200metre wooden walkway which spans most of the lake. Leave a Comment

Bukit Shahbandar Forest Par k is a very popular picnic spot. There are walking trails and the main trail leads to Triangle Point, a hill with views across the sea and coastline. An information booth at the entrance has a phamplet showing the trails. We saw a few birds here, not many because it was very crowded the day that we were there. Leave a Comment

If you are staying in Brunei for awhile and trying to find another place to chill out... Would suggest going to a local travel agent and arrange for a weekend trip to 1) Miri Town Tour in Sarawak, Malaysia 2) Mulu Caves which is a UNESCO Natural Heritage Site, also in Sarawak, Malaysia Both sites are closer to Brunei than other parts of Malaysia. So when in Brunei, you might want to take advantage of the close proximity.

Jerudong Park is a world class amusement park build in the early 1990s for the people of Brunei. The park is located in the Jerudong area, about 30 min from BSB and is a favorite amongst the locals & foreigners from nearby Malaysia. At first, it cost nothing (FREE!) to get in and play. Nowadays, you have to pay to go on the rides in the park but it is still lots of fun, especially the pirate ship, bumper cars, rollercoaster & free fall. Last time I was there I had to pay for almost all the rides individually. Concerts were also held here; I went to a Michael Jackson concert here once. When you are feeling hungry, there are stalls selling fast food nearby but do eat after the exciting rides.

If you are in Bandar Seri Begawan, you will come across a small area in-between the Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque and the stadium which resembles a small town square. There is a fountain here as well as a tall flagpole with the Brunei flag. In fact, this is a very good location for you to take the photo of the Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque with you inside the photo as well :) Leave a Comment

If you are walking along Jalan Sultan road from the Royal Regalia Museum towards the waterfront area or vice versa, you will see an interesting clock along the road (see photos). I was told there was once when someone in the Brunei government actually torn down the clock. When the Sultan found this out, he was very angry and instructed for the clock to be put up again in it's original place :) Leave a Comment

There is a small park along the Brunei River at the location where the people of Kampong Ayer (water village) park their cars. It is located along Jalan MacArthur to the east of the city, and there is a small jetty where the locals take the speedboats from the city to their homes at Kampong Ayer. This place offers very nice and relaxed views of the Brunei River and Kampong Ayer. Leave a Comment
