 | Yangshuo General Tips | Tips 1 - 10 of 53 | | Popular General Tips | Other General Tips Tips | All Tips (53) Hiring a local guide is a good idea. There are many local guide looking for business in Yangshuo, only RMB10 per day, some of them good, some not. My first day guide was a hassle, keep bringing us to those tourist spots, caves etc with high extrance fees. 2nd day we met Sophia, she is VERY GOOD. She know what we want, show us around "off the beaten path" around Yangshuo, explore the montains, villages & fields. She speak good English too! I attached her contact info here, in case you need guide, you can call her to pick you up at the station: Sophia Tel: (86) 0773-8777271 Mobile: (86) 13507838357 Email: xuchun_lan@hotmail.com Leave a Comment

This is in fact the highlight of my entire trip. There isn`t any tourist attractions that`s related to this area... in fact, tourists don`t visit this area for the very reason that it`s only accessible by bicycles & tricycles. I learned about this place from a Chinese travel magazine which introduced YULONG HE (Yulong River) as one of the route for those interested in cycling around Yangshuo. Unknowingly to me, I was surprised at the beauty of the river & mountains that surround the padi fields. It`s amazingly peaceful & felt like a paradise, one that`s still undiscovered by most. I have to thank my guide for having known where to bring me to. She has even given me an education on the vegetation around this region. Truly a marvelous experience. Sometimes, when you least expect it you are given a beauty that you`ll treasure & cherish forever. That perhaps is the most wonderful journey of being alive! Leave a Comment

To see the karst hills from a boat is another great way to experience the landscape. The river is a lifeline across the region, and offers splendid views of rural life (children, buffaloes), amazing bamboo forests, and the obvious mirror effects of the hills in the water. Leave a Comment

Yangshuo is a famous place to relax, and the only one in China where I found I could lay back away from the crowd by just heading out in the countryside. The karst landscapes are amazing here because of the constant mist which gives any landscape a great sense of mystery and intimacy. moon Hill is one of the more famous places to catch a view from. I put this in for Guilin so apologise if you read this twice. It is relevant for both places!! I only realised this when I got home. Travelling through such breathtaking scenery you get so "blown away" as you click that you don't see the finer details!! As you take the photos be aware of minute things which afterwards you'll be saying "I wish I had noticed that!!" eg some of my mistakes...other people taking same photo and somehow they end up in your photo which could have won a prize!!(and you cannot edit them out?##).....power lines....poles in the corner...not allowing for light/sun at the camera.. See my "beautiful photos"

The landscape and the villages are one of my most enjoyed moment of my first time in Asia. It was so much fun to bike around. We had a few bad moments (flat tires), but it doesn't make the memory any less. I would love to do this again sometime! Leave a Comment

Here's another pix of the mum (if you enlarge the pix) you should be able to see the child right behind the cart. Leave a Comment

When most of the children in the developed world are having fun with electronic toys & watching cartoons in the comfort of their homes, many children in China (& the one pictured here was barely 5!) are tagging along their parents helping with manual work. This kid was behind her mum who's carting some agricultural produce. Leave a Comment
