This place is great for pastries, little bread and sandwich. For 2-3$, you will come out with your arms full of stuff. I've been there a few time as the food is always fresh and there is a good variety.

The location of this restaurant is not in the new part of the city but in the older part of the city. The price is really reasonable as I had a basket of "Siew Long Pow" with 15 pow only cost me RMB5. But if you have more people you can try their Water Banquet, where they will serve you with a 24 course meal. Comes with different pricing from RMB30 till the amount you wanna pay I guess.

Another place where you can have coffee. They had a lot of different coffees on the menu, but it turned out that they only had a couple of them in stock. But the one we drank was good, and the waitresses were really friendly. It was quite expensive though. We paid 38 yuan (almost 4 euro) for a cup. There are lots of popular and apparently good restaurants in the center of Luoyang. Although the dinning rooms on street level were full they often have second floor dinning rooms available. So when you see a good looking place that looks full go in anyway. Just because these look like and are higher class places do not expect menus in pinying or even menus with pictures.
As Elyse, VT Chinese member extraordinaire, discovered on her trip to Luoyan experiencing the famous "water meal" of Luoyang can be a challenge for a single traveler even if they speak Chinese. It seemed to me that the restaurants I entered were as disconcerted by the fact that I was a single dinner, as by the fact that I could not communicate effectively in Chinese.
People both employees and guests were very friendly and helpful. In contrast to the sometimes impersonal, almost sullen service I experienced in Beijing, this was great dining even though I did not really know what I ordered.
I think my favorite dishes were vegetarian, but I certainly could not give any names. Everything was so fresh and tasty and generally so much more to my taste than Chinese food I have eaten in the USA. (Being originally from the San Francisco area I thought I knew Chinese food.) Forget about the travel warning saying yuo will almost die if you buy off the street...I guess i have a triple-coated stomach because i went as far as buying the meat sticks and the baked bananas from street vendors. Here's a pic of a back alley' restaurants that i discovered just following people at lunch time. For less than 2$ you get more food than you can eat. Only thing is, if it rains like it did the day I took that picture, you better not be in a rush to go home...!
