  • This is a name card from a Roadside-Freelance-Air-Ticket-Agent. We bought our air ticket cost RMB380 from Chengdu to Kunming from him, if you buy it from other travel agencies, it will cost RMB580. I don't know how he did it, anyway we flew to Kunming safely. Before we left, he gave me this name card and I promise to advertise for him.

  • Rain Gear during late summer and early autumn. Please check the weather reports before you set off to there.

Please check on any medication for relief of Altitude/Mountain Sickness or diarrhoe. Garlic supposedly helps for Altitude Sickness. There are tourist shops along the way to the tourist destinations in the mountains selling bottled oxygen. You may want to buy them just in case.

  • Most importantly, money! Specifically, lots of Renminbi (RMB), the Chinese currency! Alternatively, the US$ (I like this because one can bring a few $100 bills & a small wallet instead of a huge pack of RMB100! The biggest note in China is RMB100 & that's equivalent to only about US$13!). Ultimately, lots of cash :D

  • As long as you take your Emperor's clothing, you'll be OK. If not, you won't fit it, and fitting in is very important in China. See photo.

If you don't lug a giant jacket up with you, you can rent them for a few cents up on the mountain. Everyone looks like a crazed maniac in one- highly recommended photo opp. See accomodation for photo on four of them.

Take a bag of snacks, shampoo, tissue and warm clothes. The snacks are to eat on the way up the mountain. The warm clothes are to sleep in. The tissue is to wipe your ass with in the toilets. The shampoo is to wash you leg with when you fall into the septic tank.

  • For Jiuzhaigou and Huanglong you need sunglasses, sun screen, and warm clothings. You can buy cheap and quite good quality gloves and scarfs in Songpan and Jiuzhaigou.

Medicine for high altitude sickness if you are going to Jiuzhaigou and Huanglong. Half of my group needed to take the medicine. The oxygen tank we bought were basically useless. I have serious doubts about the hygiene of the oxygen bags.

Polarizer, split ND filter are a must for Jiuzhaigou and Huanglong. A tripod is a necessity if you are serious about your photos. It was already dark before the park closes in October, I managed to take some photos with ISO 200 films only at a shutter speed of 1/30 sec.

Flashlight, two-way radio if you have a group.

Warm clothing required if visiting Mt Emei
If you are visiting Mt Emei in summer, please bring along a sweater if you are going up to Mt Emei. Temperatures at the Golden Summit (Jinding) even in summer can be as low as 10 deg C.
