Getting to Narita town from downtown Tokyo was easy in theory but not as easy in practice, especially when you're lugging around all your bags with you (like we were!). The thing you need to know is that the JR stations have a manned enquiry / information counter and the people there do speak English. In general, the ladies are more patient and polite, as compared with the guys. You also need to know that although there are a number of JR trains, Keisei liner trains and airport buses that go to Narita airport, there are far fewer trains that actually stop at Narita town itself. In fact, the express trains do not stop at Narita town. Finally, don't worry if you bought the wrong ticket. You can top up any difference in price at the "top up ticket" machine when you arrive at your destination. This link helps you get to and from Narita airport but to get to Narita town takes a little more effort. For us, upon boarding at Shinjuku station, we were told to change trains at Chiba town in order to get to Narita town. The next morning, to save us the hassle of lugging the bags around, and so as not to waste time, we just took a taxi from the ryokan at Narita town straight to Narita airport. For those with more time (and less luggage), you can take a JR train to Narita town to Narita airport. Do be aware that there are two stops, one for Terminal 1 and the other for Terminal 2. If you are arranging to be picked up from Narita station, please be aware that there is an East exit and a West exit. Furthermore, there are two train stations, one for the Keisei line and the other for the JR line. It is not the same station. Good luck! : ) Leave a Comment

Tokyo has two airports - Narita Airport and Haneda Airport. Narita handles international traffic exclusively, while Haneda deals with domestic flights and a few international flights. To get from Haneda which is 10 km to central Tokyo use Monorail Haneda Airport is linked to JR Hamamatsucho Station by monorail. At Hamamatsucho you can then easily transfer onto the JR Yamanote Line or the JR Keihin Tohoku Line. It takes approximately 20min and trains depart every 10... The Airport Limousine Bus The Airport Limousine Bus departs frequently for Tokyo Station, Shinjuku Station, the city centre hotels and Disneyland. Taxi yes, you can take one..:) For short distances, Ginza, the Tokyo Station area, Shibuya and Shinjuku, taxis are affordable Leave a Comment Theme: Subway/Metro

The cheapest way to get from Narita Airport to far side of Tokyo (e.g. Shinjuku) will cost you ¥1260. The nearest part of Tokyo from the airport costs ¥1100 (e.g. Akihabara) by this same suggested route. The passage is a little confusing at first because you have to make a transfer, between 2 railways owned by different companies. It's also good of you don't have much luggage with you as you will have to climb staircases with them. The journey takes about 1.5 hours which is on average. The faster and direct routes on fast trains/ express buses can cost twice or more of that. There are 2 railway companies that you need to know - JR and Keisei. (and the Tokyo Metro is something else.) The route goes: At Narita Airport Terminals 1 / 2 - Buy a ticket to Funabashi (ON THE KEISEI line) this will cost you ¥720. Wait for the LIMITED EXPRESS trains (this one stops at lesser stations, so you will get there to Funabashi faster). Then at Funabashi you have to EXIT the station, while keeping a lookout for the sign that shows directions to the JR station at Funabashi. Once you are out, walk to your right. Surely there will be many other Japanese making journey too to the other station. You will see the JR station across the road. From JR Funabashi, you then buy the ticket that stops at your final destination in Tokyo. The example here illustrates Shinjuku (this is on the furthest side of Tokyo) which costs ¥540. Other places should cost lesser. Once you are in Tokyo, the JR takes you faster around the city while the metro makes more smaller stops in between stations. Funabashi is quite bustling so you can grab what you need here anyway. If you are making the reverse trip from Tokyo to Narita Airport, take note! There are 3 stations with Funabashi in it : HIGASHIFUNABASHI , FUNABASHI, and NISHIFUNABASHI. Remember that you need to alight at FUNABASHI and not the other 2. Theme: Train

The fastest and easiest way to get to the city of Narita from Narita airport is to take the JR train (follow the signs to the train station in ther terminals). It is a short ride (about 10 to 15 minutes) and only costs about 250 yen. Don't take the Narita express, since it doesn't stop in the city. Also, the train back to the airport comes at half hour intervals, so give yourself a lot of time to get back to the airport (or don't miss the train) if you're catching a flight. The Airport Limousine Bus, is probably the most convenient way to get to the city centre. You'll find the ticket desk right in front of you as you enter arrivals, and the bus stops are then located immediately outside each terminal building. Buses leave for Tokyo Station, Shinjuku Station, Disneyland and major hotels. They depart every 15 minutes. A ONE WAY ticket costs 3000 yen, and depending on traffic, expected journey time is about 1 1/2 hour... use the link for more information Leave a Comment

Narita's Circle Bus serves all the hotels in Narita and the urban areas of the town like Naritasan Temple, Aeon shopping complex and the Narita JR station (doesn't pass by Narita Keisei station). They have 2 independent schedules A and B. They run in reverse to each other and you will find that to get to a place you will need to hop on the bus that will get you there in the shortest time, instead of going the long way of the loop. At first you will find the schedule confusing. You can get hold of their schedule on paper at your local hotel in Narita. The rate is flat - 200yen. If you have no change, the bus driver will give it back to you the excess. Theme: Bus
