Hokkaido is famous for its Miso Ramen, but in Hakodate, the famous one is Shio Ramen (Noodles with salt flavor)
This shop is quite famous in Hakodate, so that you have to queue for a while. Be prepare for it!
Shio Ramen 600yen
If I not wrong, this is the most original one. There are many another menu with more topping or another flavor noodle. If you are the first time to try this kind of ramen, i will suggest you to try this Shio Ramen. Nothing fancy, just a good little pub/cafe that serves muontains of western style food.
Close to the historic warehouse area, but definately not nearly so sterile as all the tourist geared restaurants with their exorbitant prices, California Baby is much more home grown in terms of its design.
The menu is small, but the size of the portions more than makes up for it.
Ask for a menu in English - for some reason they didn't seem to hand it over unrequested.
I only at there once, but had a huge portion of steaming rice topped with rich spaghetti sauce and a fried egg (tabasco optional) plus a ice coffee for 500 yen. Beer available at around 200 yen.
The coffee was also very good, warmed me up after the chill wind on the harbour. If you come to Hakodate, you should go to Asa-ichi(Fish Market) where you can see a lot of fresh seafood.
I recommend to have a breakfast with seafood in Asai-chi restaurant.
You can enjoy fresh seafood bowl with Miso soup.

Awesome food. THis is also the first time I wore a yukata (japanese bathing robe).. and it fit well into the quiet atmosphere
