If you want to experience Pure Japanese Traditional Experience, I'd recommend you to go into a deep deep Japanese shopping mall, usually found out of the main road. The one I want to recommend is Higashiyama/Minatogawa Shoutengai (shopping mall). Inexpensive food, clothes, literally everything can be found. Don't expect them to speak fluent English to you, but such friendly people you will meet. Fishmangers will talk to you 'Hello, handsome, what can I get you? (except for Hello, it's in Japanese, but smile can tell you what they are talking to you)', flower sellers show you the best flower for the day with engaging smile &c... Prices are half of the normal price you see in main shops on high street. Cigarette cartons are almost the same price as those at the airport, moreover they will give you lots of extra goods. (Mind you, I never smoke but my husband!) I don't want anybody to miss it.
Inexpensive clothes, food, dishes, &c... literally ANYTHING.
half of the money you'd pay in high street Leave a Comment Theme: Discount StoreAddress: Higashiyama-cho, Hyogo-ku, KobeDirections: Get off the bus (7, 11,3, 65) at Higashiyama-cho.

Kitano Meister Garden is a building that used to be an elementary school. It was converted into a shopping & crafts building that now sells local snacks, beer, chocolate, Chinese mooncakes, paper, shoes, clothings, a Japanese specialty makeup boutique, & other goods. This is a great place to browse even if you don`t buy anything. You can sample the foods on sale and you can try your hand at making shoes (designing your own pair!), Japanese paper, & designing a t-shirt. There are 2 floors of shops & the top floor is used as a concert stage. They often have free events here. The day that I was there, there was a jazz concert!! Open 9am-6pm, daily. MOSAIC is a shopping plaza with very interesting boutiques. It`s located right along Kobe Port so that you can see the port area while shopping. Also here are a mini amusement park for children, a large arcade area, a movie theater, & lots of restaurants. Shops open from 11am-8pm. Restaurants & movie theater open later.
There`s a shop named Cenozoic selling clothing, Japanese pottery/kitchenware, aromatherapy, garden ware & jewelry. Another shop sells Asian food. Another sells character goods (Sesame Street, Disney, Snoopy, etc). About 20 shops (not including cart stall shops). You will see in the photo I posted the Ikuta Road leading to the Tokyu Hands Store. It is a Japanese department store and have many branches all over Japan. The store in Sannomiya is situated near the Sannomiya Train Station. It caters to almost anything from household goods, bags, toys, games, gift cards, novelties and do-it-yourself kits. Come along and have a look. Theme: Toys and GamesAddress: 2-10-1 Shimo-Yamate-dori, Chuo-ku, Kobe-shi HyogoPhone: 078--321-6161Directions: Near Sannomiya Subway Station. Approximately 7 to 10 minutes on foot.

Walk underneath JR rails between Sannomiya & Kobe and discover a narrow alley filled with stores selling collectibles, used/new clothing, silver jewelry, antiques, and restaurants. This is a great place for young people especially to shop and browse! Leave a Comment Theme: GiftsAddress: Underneath JR rails

Sannomiya is a must-see for any shopaholic in Kobe - but don't expect to get out of it cheaply! There are a stack of interesting little shops, and large department stores, all thrown together. For a cultural experience, visit a "purikura" arcade - a whole arcade dedicated to sticker photo machines. One problem I found with the area was the apparent lack of souvenir shops. It's more of an area for fashion and youth culture. Worth a look, though. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

you can't miss sannomiya shoppign arcade. it's actually a shopping street. There's lots of stuff there, and prices are cheaper than in Osaka. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherDirections: When you exit from Sannomiya JR station, on your left is a huge crisscrossing overhead bridge. Cross that bridge diagonally to the opposite side. you should walk past a bus stop and you will see a side street with Sannomiya shopping arcade sign overhead.
