Most hotels will let you store your luggage there while you go elsewhere. Some of the planes to Malaysia, for instance, let you have limited weight so we leave our extra stuff at the hotel until we get back.
Take lightweight stylish clothing and most of all comfy walking shoes. You will be doing a lot of walking.
There is nothing that you cannot find in Singapore. You may have to go to a few different places but you will find it.
Be sure to take your camera and lots of memory. You can buy film anywhere. You can also get a good deal on a camera, if you are looking for one. Memory is expensive and batteries are a different size than my camera uses. I always thought all AA batteries were the same volt, not so.
There is nothing that you cannot find in Singapore. The problem is knowing where to look. Most groceries and health items are in the basement of the shopping complexes. Leave a Comment

Come every June/ July, there is a giant sale across the country. Many shops offer hige discount for their wares but the real bargains are actually found outside of Orchard Road. Try shopping at the Marina Bay Area instead ...
Forget about wearing your old sundress and socks with sandals all the time. The locals here are quite well-dressed albeit on the casual side. Lots of places over here are also notoriously over "air-conditioned " ( yes, even on public buses ) .
Singapore is clean to the point of being sterile. No need to worry about topical diseases save the ever present mosquito in places where there is dense vegetation ( parks, beaches, etc )
Buy all your camera equipment here. Try the shops at Far East Plaza. I learnt a major lesson - tried to purchase a Sony memory stick in Norway only to find out it was triple the price over there!
Beach - No nudity allowed. A Jap chef was once arrested for bathing in the buff.
Plastic - most major credit cards are accepted here. The island is also littered with lots of atms even at odd places like hdb shops. all atms have the cirrus facility so you won't have to hunt around. Leave a Comment

Dress light and cool to beat the weather (e.g. Loose & comfy tees, shorts, bermudas etc.) Do wear comfy walking shoes or sandals if ur gonna do a lot of walking. It's a gd habit to carry a light umbrella at all times since the weather is rather unpredictable! So don't let rain or shine spoil yr day here! For the same reason, a cap and a pair of shades will be gd too!
Since SG is near the equator, the sun can be rather glaring in the afternoon. For the fairer readers, don't forget to pack in sunblock especially if u intend to spend long hours under the sun!
I think it's a common mistake to OVERPACK! Worry not for it really convenient to buy all sorts of stuff in Singapore. For those who r not used to the warm b humid weather here, do get St Luke's Prickly Heat Powder [available in most grocery stores n supermarkets] to beat the heat!! As a matter of fact, I use it everyday after shower!! :) Leave a Comment

There is a fairly happy end to the story of the lost luggage. I photo copied all the receipts for the clothing I bought in Singapore. There were two for each item-- the charge slip for my credit card and the store receipt. I sent them to Delta (the airline that I flew on from Washington, D.C. to New York, since they were to airline that didn't get my luggage to Singapore Airlines on time). I received a reply from Delta that since the clothing was wearable they would only reimburse me for 80% of the cost. But whoever handled it was so stupid (what else) that all of the receipts were added up (both store and credit card receipts). Then 80% of the total was sent to me by check, so I wound up with 160% of what I spent. Sometimes it pays to lose your luggage. Leave a Comment

The second time I went to Singapore, I arrived but my luggage decided to go to Frankfurt, Germany. I had nothing with me and had to shop for clothing and sundries in a country where everbody is size two. Eventually, a saleswoman took pity on me when I wandered finally into the Metro store at Marina Square. So-- I wasn't a fashion plate. What I learned from this experience: When traveling with someone you live with (in my case, my husband) pack half of each of your things in one bag and half in the other. That way you both have things to wear if one pice of luggage is wayward. I have done this on every trip since my Singapore experience. . Leave a Comment

What type of clothes do you need to pack?? The weather here in Singapore is generally HOT and HUMID. Yukks! Be prepared to perspire alot here under the sweltering heat. Folks like me (who thrive better in colder climate) reeeeally suffer alot here. :-( So, in answer to your question, this is what I'd recommend that you along with you to this tropical island - Shorts, Mini-skirts, Sun-dresses, Swim wear and anything that will aid in cooling your body! 'Tis also a good idea to bring along 1 or 2 evening dress(es). You just never know who'd invite you out for a nice expensive dinner when you're in Singapore, right? Guys, you can wear anything here! No worries... On a hot and humid day, wearing a pair of jeans isn't a good idea at all, believe me (unless of course you plan to stay indoors/ aircon room). Singaporeans do dress up at night when they go out. Of course, there are others who much prefer to dress casually regardless of the time of day. Whatever it is, our dress code here is pretty relaxed and you can even get away with wearing bermudas to a restaurant here! However, this rule DOES NOT apply if you're heading to posh restaurants like the 'Compass Rose' at Westin Stamford Hotel and country clubs (e.g. Singapore Island Country Club or even the Singapore Cricket Club). The best times to come to Singapore are the months of January to March and October to December. Our HOTTEST months here must surely be from May to August!
Bring LOTS of SUNBLOCK lotion! Even if you forget to bring one, don't worry. You can buy it from any supermarkets or shops here. They don't cost a bomb. And yes, you can even find your favorite brands here like Coppertone or Body Shop or Hawaiian Tropics etc. Photo Below: Singapore's impressive Financial District. I took this pic one early Sunday morning when we were out for a morning jog... :-)) 'A wise Traveler never despises his own country.' - Carlo Goldoni (1707-1793); Italian Dramatist.

Since Singapore is located near the equator, you can expect that the country is warm and humid. Usually tempature ranges from 24 degrees to 34 degrees. So light clothing is advisable. Do bring along an umbrella in case it rains. Especially during Nov to Jan. But then again, nowadays the weather system is going a bit haywire, so it is hard to say. :p (Additional point: For adults in Singapore, raincoat is not the common 'rain-blocking weapon'. Usually school children are the ones who wear raincoat. Adults usually use umbrella.) Leave a Comment

A big one is good... in case you want to go on a shopping spree in Singapore. There are sales galore every now and then! Anyway, if there's not enough space in your bags, you could always buy one eh? ;p
Bring light clothing -- it's almost always hot and humid here... even if it rains, it doesn't get to be less than 25 degrees Celsius or so. There's no need for any special shoes -- I suppose walking sandals like Teva's are a good idea or walking shoes. Anything's fine, really!
No need to worry -- it's easily available at shopping centres, 7-eleven shops, provision shops and just about anywhere... There are many pharmacies like Guardian and Apex located conveniently in shopping areas, so you don't have to worry about it too. If you're in the heartlands, you could also go to a Chinese Medical Hall to get toiletries and medical supplies.
Lots of places selling film and batteries, and other photography paraphernalia. Check out Sim Lim Square for photo and video equipment. Sim Lim Square is located near the town area, and any taxi driver can bring you there easily enough. If you're looking for computer equipment, you could also try Funan Centre. The nearest MRT station to this place is City Hall -- it's just a short walk away. Again, look at the site maps located within the station, ask the station supervisors or any passer-by... Another place you could try looking for electronic equipment at is Mustafa Centre located in Little India -- they have some really good prices too! Leave a Comment
