From these papers you can get a feel for what life is like there, and you can find out which events are forthcoming. I found out about loads of great events from the papers when i was there, such as pig racing, an event where people actually ride pigs in races! There are two main papers, the Daily Nation and The Sun. Leave a Comment

The water in Barbados is clean and healthy, and therefore makes buying over priced bottled water a waste of time. The only tip i would give is to fill up a jug with the tap water and put it in your fridge, if you have one in your room. This is because the water can be a bit warm when it comes straight from the tap. Leave a Comment

Getting money out in Barbados is extremely easy. You can take money out of your credit card at a number of large banks on the island, and use it in some hotels and restaurants. However, many places charge a little for this service, but it isn't much. Leave a Comment

On the island of Barbados all glass bottles are sent back to the factories, re-filled and sent out again. Bars and rum shacks pay a small deposit for each bottle, which they get back when they return the bottles. So they do not lose this deposit, bar and rum shack owners add 25c to the price of a drink if they think that the bottle may be removed from their establishment. If you make it clear to the owner that you will be staying in their place of business and returning the bottles to them, they should knock 25c of the price of each drink. This could save you a fair amount if you like a beer or two! Leave a Comment

The houses! These were originally designed by poor locals who worked on the plantations. When they had to move to another plantation to find work, they could take the house apart and transport it with them. Now many are gone but those left are often lovingly restored and some have historical status. Leave a Comment

The fringes and reefs found off Barbados blossom with healthy sponges, coral and plant life. There are several types of reefs - barrier reefs, fringing reefs and artificial reefs. There are also a few wrecks to see! http://barbados.org/diving.htm
My fondest scuba memory is the first wreck dive I did. A ship called the Pamir, off Heywoods in St. Peter. Cause it was one of my first dives, it's one I will always remember..

Leave Bridgetown. Of all the islands I've been to this port lacks a certain charm I look for in island cities. I prefer quaint and a little on the rustic side as opposed to hustle and bustle of this modern port. But that's just me.
Andromeda Botanic Gardens. On a cliff overlooking the town of Bathsheba on the rugged east coast, limestone boulders make for a natural 8-acre rock-garden setting. Thousands of orchids, hundreds of hibiscus and heliconia, and many varieties of ferns, begonias, palms, and other species grow here in splendid profusion. You'll occasionally see frogs, herons, lizards, hummingbirds, and sometimes a mongoose or a monkey. Leave a Comment

Dine at Brown Sugar located in Aquatic Gap, St. Michael here you'll enjoy the warm island hospitality and the heritage charm of an old Barbadian home, hidden within lush fern covered patios and cascading water gardens, tasty creole dishes such as flying fish, cou cou, fish cakes, souse and their famous pepperpot. Notforgetting the kids' special Chefette restaurant in St. James which has a large playground where their will enjoy a finger lickin' fast food meal.
Getting up Every morning at 6:00 a.m taking a brisk walk to one of my favourite beach, Silver Rock enjoying a slash in the glassy blue water and watching body surfing. Leave a Comment

Take a safari all wheel drive across the sugar cane tracks to the tide flats and other hidden coves and gullies. Explore wave ridges along the north east coast, where you can bathe in nature's sea pools, perched above the ocean. Feel the thrill as the ocean surf crashes against the protecting ridge and explodes into a mountain of spray above you. But don't try this without having an experienced guide with you...
Experience real Bajan warmth, the people, the places and the culture are beyond belief. Leave a Comment
