There are some of the best diving sites here you could ever find, too. Though corral reefs worldwide are deteriorating at a sicking pace, there are some very healthy systems still alive in this area, and a national marine sanctuary encompassing the island and miles of the atoll is helping tp protect this corral ecosystem. Every manner of tropical sea life can be observed here. When snorkeling the patch reefs I encountered dozens of kinds of vividly colored fishes in schools of dozens or hundreds, large, graceful manta rays, sting rays, squid, octopus, sea turtles, large harmless nurse sharks, curious baracuda, and the usual reef life of colorful corals and sponges, purple urchins and sea fans. You can swim around the island or out the reef ridge, to the next island or explore the shallows close to shore. Besides the more active things, it's nice to spend time just lounging on the beach, napping in a hammock along shore in the shade of palms, watch the clouds build and sweep past overhead, go to the library and research or ID the fish and other creatures you saw underwater, or take a leisurely walk around the island on well-worn paths. Lizards and hermit crabs will be entertain you along the way, and tropical birds will provide the soundtrack.

From Glovers reef island you can kayak to other islands and explore a very large area of reef systems. If you bring your snorkel gear, you can jump off and explore underwater, too. You can also get together with some other guests and split the cost to rent a sail boat to explore the area.

While not everyone can see jaguars, there is plenty of hiking, camping and nature activities to keep one busy. There is a large teacher's guide which gives directions for groups available at the zoo. This is quite a primative area. The website says: "For overnight camping contact BAS office, Belize City. Please sign the park register at the Craft Shop in the Maya Center before proceeding into the park. Permits are required for people passing through the park to climb Victoria Peak. Remember that all wildlife is protected in this park. Please do not disturb, harm, or attempt to capture any animals or birds. Please do not disturb, collect or remove any plants or trees. No person shall remove any antiquities or other objects of cultural or natural importance. Do not litter. Please leave trash in litter bins. Cooking is allowed only at designated areas. No fires should be lit along the trail. Please do not bring pets into the park as they interfere with the wildlife. Firearms are not to be taken into the park. Please stay on trails.
