Take a taxi
  • Tip Rating:
  • I'm probably wrong about this, but I can't recall any busses at all at Grenada. Easiest for us, when we wanted to go somewhere on land, was to take a taxi. There are both normal cabs, and then those big mini vans. Most of them sure doesn't look very modern, but they will take you wherever you want to go.
Roads aren't so good that you can go fast anyway, so just sit back an enjoy the ride with the taxi. As the island is a lot up and down you'll get some great views of the coast as soon as you go uphill for a while.

Prices aren't very cheap, but not expensive either. For the ride from the airport to our hotel outside Saint George's we paid 25 US dollar (for nine persons) which also would have been cheaper if we just had had some EC dollar instead.

    The international airport...
  • Tip Rating:
  • The international airport accommodates most international flights.
Buses are available to travel to most of the villages. There are car rental companies for provided rentals should you require one. To go to the other islands a ferry or trips by motor vessels can be arranged.

    Public transport (buses) is...
  • Tip Rating:
  • Public transport (buses) is existing but they are not really 'quick' and reliable.

Renting a car is the option we chose, but they are bloody expensive !!!! Still it's the best way to tour the island if you don't have much time. A 4-wheel drive is highly recommended and there's almost only such cars to rent anyway.

The best way to Grenada is by...
  • Tip Rating:
  • The best way to Grenada is by American Airlines which has one flight a day to the island from Miami. If not, then come by cruise ship but you need more than 6 hours on the Carenage to see Grenada. At customs you need to be able to tell them where exactly you will be staying and for how long. Bring a hat, cool clothes, and a swim suit.
Rent a car is number one. Easy to do as there are many car rental companies near the airport. Any cab driver can get you a rental car. There is a bus system consisting of SUV's that will take you on their route for $1EC which is about 30 cents US. Don't plan on walking the city streets all day-it's too hot.

  • Tip Rating:
  • 7.International Airlines offer incoming fligths to Grenada.

British West Indies Airlines- (Miami/ New York)
    British Airways - (London)
British Caledonian Airways - (London /Charter)
    American Airlines (Miami)
    Canada 3000 - (Toronto - Charter)
    Condor - (Berlin/ Frankfurt/ Munich)
Air Jamaica - (New York/ Jamaica)

Airport: Point Salines International Airport, is five minutes
    from St. George's, the capital.
The best and cheapest Transportation is the public Mini Bus !
Our Buses drive around the entire island.
It's a lot of fun, because as you drive, you are entertained by typical Caribbean music. On the buses, you will meet some of the friendliest and most helpful people in the entire Caribbean.
    LOCAL BUS:
The bus stops wherever it is needed. They drive regularly from Grand Anse to St. George's. The drive takes about 5 minutes, and costs only $ 1. EC per person.
In St. George's, the capital, there are several bus stands where you can find buses to different parts of the island.
It may seem a little bit hard to find the bus you need for your location because they are no bus signs, but all you have to do is ask our friendly people for directions. The drive that takes the most time, is the one to the town of Sauteurs, which is on the north coast of the island.
It is also the most expensive of all the trips and costs $ 5. EC. The buses drive regularly on weekdays, from 7.00 am to 7.00 pm. After regular hours, the buses charge higher rates.

    Water Taxis:
These are colorful small wooden motorboats that run between the Grand Anse beach and St.George's harbor . It is a fast, fun way to get from the town to the Grand Anse Beach, even if
occasionally you may get a little damp.
The cost to Grand Anse one way US$ 2.00 per person.
The Water Taxis can normally be found on the Carenage in town. They are only on the beach when there is a cruise ship in the harbor.

    Taxis:
There are Hotel / Airport taxis which have fixed rates.
    Airport - Grand Anse US$ 10.00
    Grand Anse - St. George's for up to 4. Pers US$ 10.00
Private Tour US$ 17.00 the hour
    After 6.00 PM + US$ 4.00
The Street taxis provide good service, but it is a good idea to first find out how much they charge for the trip before entering the vehicle.
As you can see, the bus is the cheapest method of transportation for most purposes, but occasionally, you may need to take a taxi.

    Air Jamaica flies directly...
  • Tip Rating:
  • Air Jamaica flies directly from New York otherwise you may use American Airlines (2 stops).
British Airways directly from London and there is also a German charter - not sure which one.
The best way to get around is by taxi...you can ask a hotel employee to recommend someone or just take the regular taxis parked at the hotel. I met a wonderful; driver down by the Carenage..sometimes he doesnt even charge for short rides.
