    Explore the suburbs
  • Tip Rating:
  • You will always meet some nice people around to have a chat for a while. I found most Liverpoolians very friendly and always open for a short talk. Loved that, you feel like part of the family everywhere you go. :) Must be the Irish blood in many of their hearts....

    Recreate movie scenes
  • Tip Rating:
  • Beatles fans and lovers of the movie Help! will immediately know why Danielle is posing with her hand stuck in mailbox. Non Beatles fans will have no idea and wonder why my daughter is putting her hand in a mailbox and screaming and why I took a picture of it.

I wanted a picture of a mailbox in England. So because we were in Liverpool I thought this would be a great way to take one.

    Museum of Liverpool Life
  • Tip Rating:
  • This small museum is often been overlooked for the bigger museums like the Maritime and the Tate but its well worth a look and doesn't take up too much time if its sunny outside. The culture and life of Liverpool is displayed from how they used to live and work, the football fever of the city to cult scouseTV programmes like Brookside.

Located just before the Albert Dock and overlooks the Canning Dock where several boat exhibits are open in the summer.

    A pyramid in Liverpool??
  • Tip Rating:
  • Yes Liverpool has a little pyramid too.
An addicted gambler by the name of Mckenzie wished to be buried standing up with his winning card hand still in situ - hence this strange memorial!
Address: Rodney Street - St Andrews church grounds
Directions: not far from the Roman Catholic cathedral

If you have seen some of my Ireland pages you might know that I am interested in Ireland's Famine history and memorials.

I was surprised to see a memorial in England, but then again Liverpool is half Irish, anyway ;) Actually a lot of Irish people left Europe and their home behind from Liverpool port to start a new life overseas. Or then they died on the ships to their new future :(

The famine memorial is located at St Lukes, a bombed out church near Liverpool's city centre. There are plaques about the Famine both in English and in Irish language.

    West Kirby
  • Tip Rating:
  • Just 30 mins by train from Liverpool is my home town of West Kirby. West Kirby has a beach and marina to enjoy.
This is the view half way across the marine lake looking towards the promenade. Boating and windsurfing are very popular activities. Those houses over there are where we live.

    Ness Gardens - the Laburnum...
  • Tip Rating:
  • Ness Gardens - the Laburnum Arch (end of May/June) is a well known stunning feature of these beautiful gardens. First created by the Liverpool cotton merchant Arthur Kilpin Bulley in 1898, part of which he opened to local residents, which laid the foundations of one of the major botanic gardens in the United Kingdom

    THE ANDERTON BOAT LIFT

Constructed in 1875 to raise barges from the Trent and Mersey Canal to the River Weaver, the lift is a tribute to Victorian ingenuity.

The lift, into which two narrow-boats can moor for the 16 metre journey has been restored after 20 years of rusting inactivity and as well as carrying boats, has a visitor centre, car parking and a restaurant. The whole area has been landscaped and is in stark contrast to the salt factories nearby.

The lift is in Anderton in Cheshire, about 20 miles from Liverpool but only really accessable by car. It is not a day out for the kids but would suit those with a technical bent or those who like to walk along canal banks. It is really only a half-day trip.
