The fish is white and flakey and the chips a wonderful golden brown. Friendly and efficient service with one price specials at lunchtime and early evening.
The haddock is the best in Scarborough. The food is piping hot. Leave a Comment Theme: LocalPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: 43 Westborough, ScarboroughPhone: 01723 376109Directions: Near the Tourist Office and in the direction of the Brunswick Centre

The second best place for fish and chips in Scarborough is Wackers. Mother Hubbards wins by a whisker but do not pass Wackers by - in fact it is better than its competitor in the way it is air conditioned and is on the ground floor - there are no stairs to climb. The fish and chips are very good but perhaps not as good as my first choice - Wackers is good for things that Mother Hubbards is not - mainly access for everyone.
What else - fish and chips! There is also a coffee shop within selling scones, cakes and biscuits. Leave a Comment

There are seafood stalls in a variety of places but mainly beside the harbour. When I was a kid I used to love this stuff (I wan't a veggie then) and used to get a pot of cockles or mussels or sometimes a bag of winkles to eat later on the beach (with added sand of course).
Long, long ago it was Cockles, Mussels, Winkles, Crab's Legs... I can't even look at this stuff anymore :-S Theme: Street VendorComparison: about averageAddress: Harbour side

This is the seaside, so you have to have chips (or fish & chips). Especially as this part of the country is reknowned for its quality fish (well, more Whitby than Scarborough, but the Scarborough fish is good too). Tradition is that you eat them on the beach and get a bit of sand into them (its hard to avoid anyway). The gritty crunch of the sand just adds to the taste and the experience. At least that's how it seemed as a kid ;-)
Chips, chip butty, chips & peas... this sort of thing. Theme: LocalComparison: about averageAddress: All Over TownDirections: We went to the one next to Corrigan's Amusements on the seafront.

A very well designed and extremley well furnished cafe in busy Huntriss Row , just off the main shopping street. There is a small take away bakery section on the ground floor but the cafe has three floors but unfortunatly there is no lift. The furnishings and decor are of a high standard especially on the upper floors and the pictures on the walls tasteful. This is cafe society at its best in Scarborough.
Its menu covers all tastes but its mainly small meals and sandwiches. The cakes are wonderful. The old fashioned looking cafe by Peasholm lake is a nice place to sit in the sun and listen to the bands playing. The bands play in a little shelter in the lake (I preume they get to it by boat!?) and it's always "music for old folks". Still, it's pleasant enough for a few minutes. The food here is very good. The service though can be a bit hit and miss. I think that they don't cope with large groups very well. Saying that however, is maybe unfair because the atmosphere is warm and laid back and any mistakes will be put right! Family run, good food and pleasant atmosphere.
Sea food pasta with squid ink! YUMMY! about £8.60 Leave a Comment Theme: ItalianComparison: about averageAddress: Victoria Road, Scarborough, North Yorkshire. UKDirections: Straight down the road from the POlice Station.

An Scarborough "establishment", up in the main town and with a "fish & chip restaurant" alongside its take away. That "Itis Itis" next door looked interesting too, but more as a nightlife place than a cafe.

A few miles out of Scarborough at Hackness is this hotel / restaurant called the Everley. On first impressions this is not a great inspiring establishment - as you can see from the photo it is not attractive as a building nor is the actual entrance with badly decorated walls but keep walking and it gets better. A public bar to the right abd a restuarant in front of you with great views over the valley in the distance. The food is superb if a little expensive but for a special occasion well worth the drive. Something for everyone and all cooked to order. The starters are imaginitive and the main courses well presented and plenty on the plate. Deserts typically English but OK. No mints or chocloates with the coffee which should be expected at these prices but recommended all the same.
I had the steak in ale pie and it was one of the largest I have had recently. Full of good quality meat. My wife had the chicken which was well presented and in a tasty sauce. This must be one of the best Pizza places in the country - magnifico! We always try to get there early for the 'Happy Hour' of 5-7pm offer of any pizza or pasta for £3.95. At weekends even arriving at 5:15pm you will find it filling up fast. It's very popular with families and locals of all ages. You enter at street level and go downstairs into an atmospheric cosy basement where you will be able to see the food being cooked in the Italian open kitchen. It can get quite noisy early evening and is popular for children's birthday paries. It's one of those places which have got their act together service wise, no matter how busy they get they seem to know what they are doing. Very efficient and well run. The food is generously portioned and the staff are friendly. Most of the regular waiting staff and cooks are Italian - the genuine article! A meal for 2 adults and 2 children including drinks and house wine for £22.
Try the garlic bread with tomatoe sauce for a starter (but it's big so go for one between two). It ozzes gorgeous garlic butter and is one of the best garlic breads ever - beleive me, I have tried a few! Our faviouite is the vegetarian pizza. It's the same size as the garlic bread, which is big, so you may stuggle to eat it all (the children's bambino pizza is the same size as an adult pizza in some places). The house white wine is also great. There's a bus stop right outside. If your taking the car, the best bet is to park in one of the side streets (pay meter by day, free in the evenings).
