 | Scarborough Transportation | Tips 11 - 20 of 26 | | Popular Transportation | Other Transportation Tips | All Tips (26) Scarborough has a Park and Ride bus service from 07.00 to 19.00 seven days per week. Car parking is free and the bus is just 40p for a single journey. The bus service number is 111 and the bus starts and ends at the Weaponess car park which is handy for the A64 and the main road from the south in to the town. In the town the bus stops at the back of the Brunswick Centre and also underneath Valley Bridge which is handy for the south bay. Leave a Comment Theme: Bus

The local bus service is operated by Scarborough and District Buses. Their buses all seem to be fairly new and the drivers were friendly and helpful when we used them. The buses stop all over town but start their journeys in Queen Street. The web site provides details of the many services and details of discounted fares and season tickets. Leave a Comment

The sea front buses run every few minutes from the Spa to Corner Cafe and cost £1.50 (June 2006) for the full journey. You can of course pay less and use the bus for journeys within the main route. You pay the driver and change is available - you do not need the exact fare. The buses are open top as the photo shows and it is quite an exhilerating journey especially around the Marine Drive. There are three cliff lifts in the town and these will take you from the promenade up to the town centre ( or down if you do not wish to negotiate the steep steps and paths). The ride is comfortable and the trams go every few minutes when full. The fare is 70p ( as at May 2006) Please note the cliff lift near the Town Hall is in need of repair and closed in February 2007. The railways are what made Scarborough during Victorian times, bringing hoards of visitors from all over Yorkshire and the North of England. The railway links with York, which is on the mainline. So you'd likely have to change there to get to Scarborough. Theme: Train

Another of the main Bus providers for getting to/from Scarborough is the excellent YORKSHIRE COASTLINER, with buses to/from Leeds via Malton & York. The service number to get to/from Scarborough is the #843 which goes over the following route from Scarborough: Scarborough (Peasholme Park) > Scarborough (Railway Station, Stop R) > Seamer Roundabout > Staxton (Hare & Hounds pub) > Ganton (The Ganton Greyhound public house) > Sherburn (crossroads) > West Heslerton (crossroads) > Rillington (Fleece Hotel) > Scagglethorpe (Ham & Cheese Public House) > Norton (Library) > Malton Bus station (10minute stop off for a driver change, etc) > Barton Hill > Stockton on the Forest > City of York (Stonebow, Stop C) > City of York (Railway Station, Stop J) > Dringhouses (York college) > Copmanthorpe > Tadcaster > Seacroft > Leeds City Bus Station. My 3rd and final tip to get you to/from Scarborough via a mode of Public Transport known as a "Bus" is the availability of the Arriva #93 & X93 Bus Service from Middlesbrough to Scarborough via my Home town of Whitby. This goes over the following route (from Middlesbrough): Middlesbrough Bus Station > Ormesby Crossroads > Guisborough (Market Place) > Birk Brow (top of VERY steep, winding hill along the A171... great view though) > Scaling Dam (large Trout reservoir owned by Northumbrian water on the Teeside/North Yorkshire border) > Aislaby (War Memorial) > Whitby Bus Station > Hawsker Village > Robin Hood's Bay (#93 only) > Fylingthorpe > Flask Inn > Cloughton > Scarborough Hospital > Scarborough Railway Station. My first tip for Transportation to / from Scarborough, and the first of 2 Train tips is this, especially relavent to people from outside the UK wanting to visit Scarborough: Scarborough Railway Station is managed by FIRST Transpennine Express, and according to various sources that've cropped up online the station is home to the longest bench (as in seating) in any railway station in the UK, if not the world. The Trains Operated by Transpennine Express go straight to/from Scarborough on the East coast of the UK, over to Liverpool on the West Coast, and call at the following stations (from Scarborough): Seamer > Malton > York (connections to East coast mainline) > Leeds > Huddersfield > Stalybridge > Manchester (Piccadilly) > Manchester (Oxford Road) / Manchester International Airport (connection from Manchester Oxford Road station?) > Birchwood > Warrington Central > Liverpool (Lime Street station). Total journey time from Scarborough to Liverpool (according to the National Rail Enquiries website) is around 3hrs 12minutes. Leave a Comment

According to the National Rail Enquiries website, this service then goes onwards to Sheffield. Leave a Comment
