When those cliffs become to much for you, have a go at a funicular tram up the cliff. This is the Central tram which starts from just next to the Grand Hotel and takes you to the shopping area above the beach, close to the railway station. There is also the St Nicholas and the South Cliff one by the spa. Leave a Comment

Every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday through the summer the Scarborough Spa Express travels from York, Knaresborough, Harrogate and Leeds to Scarborough. Main line steam engines pull the trains and this a a novel way to travel to the town. Beware though that this is not a cheap outing - for example a basic journey from York to Scarborough is £42 for the full journey via Leeds. The train has a light meals service and drinks available through the journey. Leave a Comment

I am someone who "as yet" has never had a major drama with trains,so I find Midland Mainline useful(personal opinion). My tip is subjective as it focuses on one route,ie "my own". Midland mainline has 3 or 4 routes to Scarborough, mostly via Derby,Peterborough,or Sheffield, and through York. The journey time from Leicester is around 3hrs 20 mins alltogether including stops. My fare for this journey was a wallet busting £58 return (as of sept 06) Useful info on train times and fares, can be obtained via http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/ Midland mainline have timetable info http://www.midlandmainline.com/mainpage.aspx?id=263 Plus contact info http://www.midlandmainline.com/mainpage.aspx?id=414 and a very useful ROUTE MAP http://www.midlandmainline.com/stationsholder.aspx?id=228 Leave a Comment

There are frequent trains from for instance Liverpool via York and from Hull. Just bear in mind on your return that in Scarborough, you queue to get on the trains so be there in advance if you travel on a busy day or risk getting no seat. If you want a cheaper fare, buses are fairly frequent. In York the Yorkshire Coastliner runs from the railway station via Malton to Scarborough. In Hull buses run from the coach station and in Whitby from the railway station via Robin Hood's Bay. Leave a Comment Theme: Train

Scarborough is on the Moors Bus network - by using dedicated buses in the North Yorkshire Moors with links from Scarborough it is possible to see many places on the moors usually inaccessible by public transport. Moors Bus is a summer only scheme operated to enable people without cars explore areas of the North Yorkshire Moors not usually served by bus. The buses interlink reasonably well and fares are reasonably low. There are a number of buses with disabled access. The website (which is very detailed and well thought out does need some navigating but this is a welcome innovation for the area. Leave a Comment
