Sports
  • Tip Rating:
  • Nottingham, if memory serves me correctly, has more sports facilities per head than any other place in Europe. There are two local football teams - Notts. County and Nottingham Forest. Neither team plays in the Premiership nowadaws but Nottingham Forest were two time winners of the European Cup back in th elate seventies/early eighties.

Nottingham also hosts a grass court tennis tournament each year before Wimbledon. As Greg Rusedski is a recent winner the standard can't be too high.

    Caves of Nottingham
  • Tip Rating:
  • The Caves of Nottingham are one of the cities biggest tourist attractions. These hand-carved sandstone caves date from the 13th Century and can be visited through the Broadmarsh shopping centre. The Caves most recent use was as air-raid shelters during WW2.

  • Tip Rating:
  • Nottingham is a great place to shop. This arcade, near the council house, had some interesting shops.

    Prince of Thieves
  • Tip Rating:
  • Nottingham's most famous son - not Brian Clough, but Robin Hood. Stealing from the rich to give to the poor - you know the story.

  • Tip Rating:
  • Visit Nottingham Castle. It's not so much the castle that's of interest though (because it's not the original and doesn't even look like a castle now). No, it's the underground tunnels under and around the castle grounds that have a story to tell (see picture below).

Scary rides at the Goose Fair in October!

  • Tip Rating:

  • The picture here is of Carsington Reservoir which is owned by the Severn Trent Water Authority one of the largest companies providing our household and business tap water. There is a visitors centre explaining how the water is collected and purified prior to use and much more besides, quite informative for children and adults alike. You can take the 9 mile walk around the Reservoir or cycle around it, take a picnic on it's surrounding banks or just relax, the choice is yours! (But no swimming, sorry.)
