Nottingham has many very old pubs including The Old Salutation, the Royal Children and the Old Bell. But the oldest of all is the Trip To Jerusalem which dates from 1189. It is built over the front of a cave in the castle rock and some of the back rooms are carved out of the sandstone. Instead of Darts play the Ring O' Bull game downstairs where you try to loop a metal ring over a horn. Leave a Comment

Generally, Nottingham is famous for Robin Hood. You can visit the castle. I did not put this as a must-see activity becos there are much better castles to see (eg. Warwick castle, Windsor, Edinburgh, etc to name a few). The castle is pretty small. Leave a Comment

There are a variety of restaurants in Nottingham, and I'll create some tips about my favourites in due course. However - here's a quick list of the range of places to eat in the City Centre: Budget / fast food - Plenty of Macdonalds, Burger Kings, Starbucks (OK, so not budget..) and similar coffee houses, Subway sandwiches and street vendors selling jacket potatos outside the Council House. Good value - Wetherspoons pub in old Market Square (there are 2 of them), Yates also in Market Square, "All you can eat" buffets in the Cornerhouse and on George Street, Thurland Street (all Chinese), also on Goosegate in Hockley (mixture of Chinese, Italian and Indian) Chains - Cafe Rouge, Bella Italia, Pizza Hut, La Tasca Tapas Slightly posher but cosy - Punchinello (Forman Street), Scruffys (off Stoney Street), Welbeck Hotel (top floor restaurant with nice views), The Living Room Posher - Harts, World Service*, Saltwater, Chino Latino Good Indian restaurants - 4550 miles from Delhi, Laguna*, Chutney Jacks* * = I haven't been there myself, but have heard good things! fab places out of the City Centre - Georgetown malaysian restaurant (part of Colwick Hall Hotel), The Full Moon pub at Morton (Good luck finding it!), The Caunton Beck ... You can read more about most of these with a simple Google, but I'll endeavour to write some detailed reviews. Happy eating! Leave a Comment

This is my favourite museum in Nottingham and in the whole world! I am one of those people who don't usually find museums extremely exciting, but this one was great! It's a museum of crime and punishment where you can see how and why criminals were convicted in the past and what happened to those poor convicted souls afterwards. The place itself is interesting to look at, but what's best about the museum is that you really get to EXPERIENCE what some people have had to go through in the past. You start the tour by following a trial in the Victorian court room. The judge is a man who knows his value but does not show great interest towards his job, or at least towards making just decisions. He allows you to take part in the trial so my friend and I did. My friend got sentenced to death for speaking for the defence and I was to be sent to Australia for not bowing deep enough in front of the judge. We were both sent downstairs first, where we met the prison warder. He welcomed us and told us in a rather frank way what our lives would be like down there. After that we were taken on a tour around the cells and caves and finally locked in a very small scary cell with no light. It was all great fun!!! Read more at http://www.galleriesofjustice.org.uk/. Nottingham like the other Midlands cities, is chopped in pieces by an inner ring road, which encloses most of the attractions, eateries and bars. The train station is south of the canal on the southern edge of the centre. There are two bus stations : Victoria bus station is hidden away behind the Victoria shopping centre, just north of the city centre, while Broadmarsh bus station (the National Express buses stop there) is behind Broadmarsh shopping center to the south. The TIC (tel 915 5330, fax 915 5323; www.visitnottingham.com; 1-4 Smitty Row; open 9am-5:30pm Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm Sat year-round, 11am-3pm Sun summer) is situated in the Council House on the Old Market Square.
