It has been told that these guys often keep the profits from the magazines to spend on drugs in most cases although there are also some genuine guys out there who just want to earn enough money to feed themselves and care for there well being. Its best to ignore or just say no thanks if you do not want a magazine and usually there ok about it.

The Robin Hood experience is a 'dark ride' which seems to cash in very well on the memory of the most famous person (if he ever existed) to be associated with Nottingham. The ride consists of sitting in some little carts, similar to a ghost train and slowly crawling through a number of medieval scenes which are supposed to bring to life the legends of Robin Hood. Even as an intelligent (supposedly) adult I found it confusing to understand and lacking in any real sense of developing story. In addition the area you enter after the ride with various stalls that wouldn't provoke interest at a village fete. It failed to justify the seven quid entry ticket.
Make you kids pay for their own entry if they pester you to go on it.

Goose Fair attracts millions of people each year in October. Although it's free to wander round, it's really expensive for each ride (over £5 a time). There's also a good chance of getting mugged if you're not careful. A good place to keep your money is in your socks - that way if you go on a ride it won't fall out of your pocket and people who bump into you can't reach your wallet inside your jacket or pocket. Oh and you WILL get bumped into - it's solid of people (most with good intentions but plenty who just want your money).
Daytime during the week is the best time as the kids are still at school (so less busy) but it really is magical at night!
The American Adventure theme park is in nearby Ilkeston, Derbyshire (but goose fair is better). There's also Alton Towers in Staffordshire (but Goose Fair is unique!) Leave a Comment

This is an attempt to cash in on the Robin Hood legend. Personally, I find it sterile and overpriced. It is a bit like the Jorvik Viking Centre in York, but nowhere near as good. I guess if you are a foreign tourist visiting Nottingham, this place will hold a fatal attraction for you though! There are some interesting historical documents chronicling the first references to Robin Hood. Admission: Adults £8.95, Seniors and students £7.95, Children £6.95
For a much more authentic and cheaper Robin Hood "experience" go the Robin Hood Visitors' Centre, near Edwinstowe, in Sherwood Forest. Leave a Comment
