 | Fraserburgh Things To Do | Tips 1 - 10 of 18 | | Popular Things To Do | Other Things To Do Tips | All Tips (18) Fraserburgh has a best kept secret - a stunning beach. It runs from just out of town around a bay to Cairnbulg, a distnace of some 5 miles (8km) The sand is fine, its surrounded by tall dunes, and you often glimpse the coming and goings of the boats from the nearby harbour. It is also very quite even in the summer. Ok you say there must be a downside to this paradise - well it can be a bit parky when the wind blows and alas overcast and cloudy days are not uncommon! There are usually quite a few really large fishing boats to be seen around the harbour. If you are into boats it is a pleasant walk and a great opportunity to get some good photos. If boats don't do it for you then it is still a good place to come for views of the historic town We have also seen grey seals in the harbour, but don't know if this is common, although I suspetc it is. Large numers of mackeral and herring are landed seven days a week throughout the year. Leave a Comment Directions: Can't miss it - just head for the sea when in town.

The Wine Tower dating from the 16th Century is probably the oldest building in Fraserburgh. However it remains an enigma as the its true purpouse is lost in the mists of time. It has three floors although none of them are conected together and all have their own access. Today the top floor is accesable and houses giant pendants Leave a Comment Address: Kinaird HeadDirections: Just to back of the lighthouse

The clock on the steeple of Crimond Parish Church was donated by James Laing & was taken from his farmhouse at Haddo. A mistake was made during it's construction, adding an extra minute hence 61 minutes on the clock. The clock bears an inscription "The hour's coming" but maybe not with the extra minute it might never arrive! Kinnaird Head Lighthouse was originally build as Fraserburgh Castle built in 1572 by Sir Alexander Fraser 8th Laird of Philorth. Although called a "Castle" it was really just a town house & was sold to the Northern Lighthouse Board in 1786. A year later Thomas Smith converted the building into a Lighthouse. Later in 1884 Robert Stevenson radically altered the lighthouse to what we see today. The Wine Tower dates back to the 15th. Century. The tower consists of three stories, the first one is totally dark with no windows. The name does not reflect it's purpose, it's origins have been mysteriously lost in time, one theory on the buildings past is it was a customs holding the other is more romantic and the one I prefer, it is said the Laird of Philorth build the tower as a Chaple for his new Bride. Whatever it was, it remains for me a very unique & interesting Tower, where maybe in the future more stories will weave their spell around this quiet little place. A visit to the bird hide overlooking the Loch of Strathbeg's Tower Pool is a bird watchers paradise. Open year round & managed & maintained by the Royal Society for the preservation of birds. Watch out to see the year round residents, all sorts of sea birds, owls & hawks, but also watch for the big migration of Geese arriving to over winter here in the North East Sanctuary. Fraserburgh has five miles of golden sand with brooding sand dunes. In summer if you are lucky with the weather you can bring a picnic & catch some rays. Mostly the weather will be chilly with onshore breezes creating perfect walking & beach combing conditions. After your walk you can have a cuppa in the Beach Resaurant. Leave a Comment Address: Fraserburgh BeachDirections: On entering Fraserburgh from the south turn right at the 1st. roundabout, the car park is signposted on your right.
