 | Edinburgh Shopping | Tips 1 - 10 of 83 | | Popular Shopping | Other Shopping Tips | All Tips (83) As it did with me, Dalmore will surprise you with its aroma. It is very soft and sweet, almost like caramel. The aroma goes very well with the mahogany colour of the liquid. The taste that comes from the 12 years staying exclusively inside the Oloroso sherry casks is smooth and mellow at first, but then it becomes warmer than you would think it should, and then it surprises you again by growing stronger and bolder. The contrast may not be what you expect, but I suspect that was the intended character, not something that happened accidentally. I like single malt and I like whisky that does not afraid to be different. Dalmore fits that image nicely. By the way, this single Northern Highland malt won the 2005 Best Buy of the Year Award from The Annual Malt Advocate Whisky Awards. That should speak volume of the whisky, wouldn't you agree?

Talisker is the only single malt made in the Isle of Skye, and one of the six Classic Malts in Scotland. This is a beautiful 10-year-old whisky, if whisky can be described as beautiful (after all, as a woman, I am more at ease in describing things in feminine terms). There seems to be a light shine through the rich amber colour of the liquid, and that is the first sign you are holding something good in your hand. Then the perfume comes next. It is fruity and smoky at the same time. And then the taste! At first, it stays smoothly on your tongue, then you let it slide down your throat and you feel its silkiness, then it reaches your chest, and the warmth takes over, a full-bodied warmth with a rich and intense finish. This is definitely not a whisky to hold in your hand over the course of the evening, but one to enjoy heartily. There are times when indulgence can be a virtue, and with the long finish that comes from Talisker, it can also be a reward.
Single malt whisky, of course. If you are not a whisky drinker, find ones who do and give it to them, you will forever be on their Christmas list. Leave a Comment Theme: Food and Drink

Edinburgh may be famous for its deep fried mars bars but none of the city's chippies can come close to the quality of product turned out by this take-away. From creamy peppery chicken and mushroom pies to flakey iced blackcurrant and raspberry - well pies - this establishment has raised the standard of what you can expect to get for your £1.30. As well as the huge selection of heated pies - Mexican, beef, vegitarian and non-savoury - there are also sandwiches, hot dogs, sausage rolls, muffins and anything else you might want to fill the gap.
The raspberry and blackcurrant pie is superb Leave a Comment Theme: Food and DrinkAddress: 38 South Bridge EH1 1LLPhone: 0131 556 8566Directions: Just along the road from the Royal Mile going in the opposite direction to the Scotsman hotel and North Bridge - on the way to the Festival Theatre

Standing on a corner of Princes Street sits the great department store Jenners of Edinburgh. This shop really is an Edinburgh Institution. It has ornate carved stonework in the elaborate fashion of late Victorian era. The staff are of "The Old School" full of gentle courtesy & service. The tea room which looks out onto Princes Street is a must.
My friend once remarked about the price tickets missing a decimal point!! So you could say it is rather expensive but worth a visit even if you don't buy anything.

Jenners is a traditional department store on Princes Street, with a large skylight and an open interior court in the middle. They say they have been at this exact location on Princes Street since 1838, and that the current building is over 100 years old. They used to pride themselves on being an independent, family-run organiz(s)ation, but now they seem to have been bought up by a big chain just like everybody else. Leave a Comment

Greggs, I've never been a big fan, but I happen to know there is someone living in Glasgow who's a big fan... I couldn't help think of that tip when I saw the queues here in their Rose Street branch during a lunchtime the other day. Seeing it to be this popular, maybe I should have tried it, but I couldn't be ar*ed to, I'm afraid.
Something filling to get you through the afternoon'd be a good idea about this time. I'd bet they do Scotch Eggs here. Probably not veggie ones though. Feedback anybody?

Along the Royal Mile and Princes Street there are lot of souvenir shops (some of them playing bagpipe music). Here you find a variation of things; cups with Scottish motif, textile badges, key-rings, pack of cards, shortbread, Scottish toffee, book, postcards etc. You can also buy tartan cloths like kilts and scarves and cashmere wool jumpers. All museums also have their own souvenir shop. I found my souvenir, a pillowcase with a thistle, at Edinburgh Castle. Leave a Comment Theme: Other
