Miscellaneous: Price of Attractions
Attractions such as the Zoo, the Dungeon and Our Dynamic Earth sure know how to charge admission! Expect to pay between eight and eleven pounds for adults. Student prices are slightly better, but still not cheap.

I would say the Zoo is the best value for your money, as you can spent all day there without getting bored. However, other attractions which involve tours often last only one or two hours, so if you do pay the money for these, try to get as much out of your allotted time as possible. Also, be aware that while you will probably find leaflets containing 'money off' coupons, certain venues will prevent the use of these by offering a 'special deal' on a particular day, always knocking off less than the voucher does.

Miscellaneous: Dynamic Earth - just say NO!
This place is such a rip. It is really expensive and if you drive you have to pay a ridiculous amount for parking, too. Then you go in and you are fed through a serious of rooms - no going back, in most cases, once you have left a room - and out again in less than two hours. The best thing inside is a giant block of ice and even that isn't that great. Furthermore, the whole thing is hugely reliant on video screens showing nature documentary-type stuff.

Make sure and stick around the rain forest bit long enough for a storm. But honestly, just don't waste your money. You're better than this. Really.

The budget Dynamic Earth experience:
Ride in a lift (time machine)
Stand in front of a glowy gas fire while someone pushes you (volcanic eruption)
Stick your head in a freezer that needs defrosting (ice age)
Watch the Discovery Channel (the entire rest of the attraction)

Miscellaneous: blue meanies
driving in the city centre is quite busy especially at rush hour time, and so is parking, there are multi storey car parks but these can be expensive for a long stay.

if you park on kerbsides watch out for what we call yellow lines, there is a yelllow line painted onto the ground and you cannot park there, if you do we have these people called blue meanies, parking attendants, who come along and slap a parking fine on your car, or at worst arrange for it to be stowed away and you have to pay a hefty fine to get it back

in the city centre use public transport, there are plenty of buses, and you can buy day tickets for these

Miscellaneous: pretend taxi drivers
only use black hackney cabs the proper taxis the same ones you see in london dont use the "private hire cars" i stress the word cars as they are not taxis, although they are liscenced by the council they do no training whatsoever and will take you the tourist route where as the hackney cabs(london taxis)will always give you the professional service you pay for. private cars tend to be saloon cars like mercedes or skodas with small badges below the registration plate. its common knowledge that people trying to launder drug money buy private hire cars firms to do so. dont encourage them

ask them what route they will take before you go, some will tell you they will use a g p s system you know the wee computers on the dash board but what they dont tell you is they can program it to miss out low bridges etc even though cars can go anywhere hence still taking you the tourist route without you suspecting a thing, a hackney driver can tell you the route from his head within seconds thats why the pay a lot of money to do the knowledge.

phone and wait for a taxi, you wont wait long i promise you.
