 | Edinburgh Transportation | Tips 51 - 60 of 213 | | Popular Transportation | Other Transportation Tips | All Tips (213) http://www.lothianbuses.co.uk/ and http://www.firstgroup.com are the two bus companies operating in Edinburgh. Lothian buses mostly service the centre of the city, while first will take you out side the city. However you have to have the correct change, there is no change facility at all, and you will eather have to go and find some, or just pay what you have, even if it's over the actual fare. The fares are not cheap if you are only going a few stops, and it would be more advisable to walk and take in the city, however if you are going to be a number of buses throughout the day, you can get a day ticket that allows you on any bus all day. If you are staying longer you may wish to purchase a week long pass, or a month long one as these can work out cheaper. The websites are good and will give you maps and locations that each of the bus services go to.

You can buy a day-ticket on Lothian Buses for £2-50 (as at October 2007) which is great value -- the number 26 will take you from Princes Street out to the coast (Portobello etc) and you can hop on/off any Lothian Bus as you please. You can buy your ticket on the bus or from one of the 3 Lothian Bus shops/offices which are situated at :- Shandwick Place -- West End (continuation of Princes Street) Waverley Bridge -- near the train station Hanover Street -- off Princes Street Leave a Comment Theme: Bus

The parking attendants around Edinburgh are notorious and I've had several tickets over the years. They even give out fines on the recent Christmas Bank Holidays according to an article in the Scotsman. I thought I'd try to get a picture whilst out and quickly found a ticket being issued beside the Usher Hall. Over the next 2 hours I must have seen nearly 10 other enforcers, take my advice and don't street park if you can help it. This was brought to mind by a recent phone in on Radio 5 Live, on this it mentioned that if you are not presented with a ticket (either in person or on your car) and the attendant is still writing it out then you can jump in your car and drive off. You can also appeal against any fine. AppealNow.com are an action group that give advice on how to fight any fines you may get.

just took my son to Edinburgh airport this afternoon (3 july) no delays or problems, but cars cannot go to the front of the building to drop off or pick up (only buses & taxis); cars have to park in car parks, then occupants have to get out & walk 100 meters people are being told to allow 1 hour extra for travel to the airport which is nonsense based on my experience; just means a lot of extra people in the terminal, so its crowded

The airport shuttle runs approximately every 10 minutes and goes as far as Waverley Bridge in the centre of Edinburgh. The journey is about 25 minutes. You can also get off at stops along Princes Street, but as we found for our return journey, you CANNOT ascend at Princes Street, only Waverley Bridge. There is a designated stop there. At the time of purchasing end of July 2006 prices were £3 single and £5 open return. Leave a Comment

for visitors from London, the South and Eastern areas of England have easy access to the A1 road which runs from London to Edinburgh the road is currently being upgraded to motorway, and is minimum of two lanes for most of the route, it is a pleasant journey with plenty to see on the way, if you do drive up then look out for signs advertising pubs and restaurants just off the road, the food will be better than the typical chain restaurants actually on the road, and probably cheaper too its a long drive up to Edinburgh from southern England, dont drive while you are tired, share the driving if possible and take care, especially if you arent used to driving on the left hand side of the road Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor Home

The planes will get you from London to Edinburgh faster (and maybe cheaper), but the Scotrail Sleeper train was just so much fun! The train leaves around midnight and arrives in Edinburgh around 8am, giving you one last night in London and a nice early start in Scotland without losing daylight hours in transit. Besides the not-so-posh but definitely comfy bunks, the train has a small dining area with a fully-stocked bar where you can meet and chat with other travelers. Leave a Comment

Waverley is Edinburgh's main railway station and could not be more centrally located in the valley between the Old & New Towns. The station is managed by Network Rail and there are numerous facilities (see map), most are detailed on the website below. See the live information page for details of current arrivals & departures

To my opinion the best option to know edinburgh is to use a good map and just walk. the royal mile is beautiful when you walk not driving a car or in a bus. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

Edinburgh is a easy city to get around in, we took buses to the city from Leith and then walked to the castle. You can see in this picture that there are many cars on the street, many people going to work I suppose. Leave a Comment Theme: Other
