Glasgow people are earthy and are very pleased to see foreigners come to visit their city. They are very pleased to help in any way they can and don't be afraid to ask for assistance. They are a little shy though and won't make much of an effort to talk to you unless you initiate the conversation.
To see the real people of the city you must head away from the tourist part of town and get on your best walking shoes and simply explore.

In general, Glasgow people are very friendly, very talkative and (if you are unaccustomed to the strong accent and pace of speech) totally incomprehensible!! So you might want to spend a few days there so you get a chance to 'learn the lingo'!! Leave a Comment

AS BEFORE THE LOCALS ARE VERY HELPFUL DONT BE SCARED TO ASK
FOR ADVICE OR TIPS ALWAYS OFFER TO SHAKE HANDS.
A LOCAL WOULD NOT TIP IF THE SERVICE IS BAD (SO WHEN IN ROME).
AVOID LOCAL TAXIS UNLESS YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU ARE DOING
AVOID BIG NAME CAR HIRE COMPANYS.
GO LOCAL AND SAVE A LOT OF MONEY

Don't be afraid to ask anyone in Glasgow where to go, if you get a rebuke it will be an extremely rare thing, person will probably try and take you where you want to go.

Glaswegians enjoy a reputation for friendliness, however there is a distinct element which may disconcert the casual tourist.
Beware of groups of pasty faced youths in Burberry, Lacoste or Henry Lloyd attire.
The famous Glasgow Ned is immediately identifiable. On occasion hysterically funny, but caught on the wrong end of a drinking session can cause fear and alarm to the unsuspecting traveller.

in glasgow you can use the following words to say "thank you" and thus allow you to blend in a bit and not stick out like a sore thumb...
"cheers!".......
"ta.".....
"nice one".....
"thanks"......
"muchos grasias"( lots of scots visit spain you know).....
you can add on a "mate"..... or "pal" .... or if the person helping you is wearing a berghaus jacket, baseball cap and tracksuit bottoms tucked in his socks, a "mucker" is perfectly acceptable. however, it is probably best to avoid the young fellow altogether (species:nedus juvenile oothisnutonjellies )
p.s. don't ask a couple standing together. they'll both have different routes of how to get there and will probably end up in them shouting and swearing at each other. don't be concerned because this is normal. glaswegians swear.....a lot.

It might take you a while to get used to the thick scottish accent, most younger people speak much more clearly.
