Sauchiehall Street: From door to door to door....
  • Tip Rating:
  • At day you've probably been shopping along Sauchiehall Street. Well, where the shops seemed to stop, that's where the nightlife part begins.

From Charing Cross all the way down to the pedestrian part the clubs and pubs lay door to door. Just start in either end and work yourself to the other.

Be aware that most clubs charge an entrance fee, so you probably won't do many clubs in a night... My tip is to stay at a pub until 11 pm (when they close, imagine that...) and then check out a place which suits your age, class and taste in music (you'll hear rythms out on the street).

Oh, and don't forget the mandatory stop at either of the fast food stops after closing time, it's kind of part of the deal.

Some places are really posh, some are very student-ish, dress as you seem fit for your purpose.

There is a lot to offer and no shortage of bars and clubs.

For young students 17-24 the best place to head is Sauchiehall Street. All the bars run along this street and there are two nightclubs, The Garage and Trash.

For more refined students that want to soak up a little bit of the typical Scottish culture it's better to head to Ashton lane in the West End. If you take the underground to Hillhead you simply come out of the underground and take the first left turning into the lane. There are also a few bars on Byres Road.

The Merchant city is my favourite place to go for a night out and there is no shortage of bars either. Arta is a trendy bar with an avergae age of 30+ you can also eat here. For a more traditional Scottish pub head to Blackfriars or Babbity Bowster's on Black Friars Street.

For a bit of luxury head for the Corinthian on Ingram Street: it's beautiful inside and not much more expensive than any other bar. Don't forget to look at the ceilings: it used to be an old bank.

On a Friday Satuirday night people tend to get dickied up but in a little bit of a tacky way but just wear what makes you feel comfortable

Sauchiehall Street: Downtown where all the lights are bright and gay
  • Tip Rating:
  • The street is more busy at 3 4 in the morning than in the afternoon. A welcome edition is the A.B.C. HOUSING 2 SUPERB MUSICVENUES AND THEN TRANSFORMING THEMSELVES INTO NIGHTCLUBS AFTERWARDS.besides it is Campus and Bar Budda and 3 Casinos open till 6 in the morning. If you see a group playing dont hesitate to go .Its as much fun in the clubs as outside.

Weegies do put on the sparkle for a night on the town

  • Went to a bunch of cool bars and clubs around here. Some were very strange. We went to one club that had different themed rooms with different types of music playing in each. No Barry Manilow in any of them, sup wid dat?? Kidding -- sorta.

Tons of hoochie-mama outfits were seen. We went for the black pants, nice shirt and nice shoes. Guys- no jeans and a tshirt. By no jeans, I mean pants instead.

    Sauchiehall Street: don't head towards
Sauchiehall street is definately the place tohead if you want to go on a pup crawl - however be ready to play "dodge the drunk" and shudder at the sight of bear legs and sandles during the coldest of January nights. For a calmer, more sophisticated evening head towards the merchant City

Sauchiehall Street: A bar crawl of the student bars
The pubs and clubs in Sauchiehall Street can be very difficult to get into on certain nights when they only open up for students of the local university. You'll have to show your cards to get past the bouncers.

On our first trip to the street we were lucky enough to be accompanied by two female friends who were still students. One of them was the sister of one of our party who took umbrage to us calling her brother "Fat Boy" even though it is one of his nicknames and we just naturally call him that.

Anyhow with the help of the girls we did manage to get into many bars and had a great time until the early hours.

On our second trip in November 2006 we had more difficulty and so ended up in a sports bar. The bouncers on the door looked at us and mumbled something about maybe being able to squeeze us in in a few minutes time. They let us in eventually and to our surprise the place was not even half full. The bar actually turned out to be not too bad as it had seemed. It had one of those robotic bulls in one port of the bar and so after a few drinks one of our crew took the plunge and took to the saddle. Needless to say he was thrown off rather quickly but managed to pick himself up for another go. Now I would have normally had a go but I had just spent vast amounts of money at the chiropractor and so stood down on medical grounds.

Another good thing about the bar was that it was offering £1 price for any drink all night. Needless to say we were here until they chucked us out.

    Pretty casual

    Sauchiehall Street: Remember this
I read about this place during the witching hours. I didn't see anything out of the ordinary. But again, I was with a local friend so that helped. Just remember, if you're in a jam and rely on the bus, the last one runs til about 12:30. Your best bet if you can find one is a taxi. There's lots of bars and "basement-type" pubs and clubs all along Sauchiehall. There's something going on in each.

Sauchiehall Street: a great night out
On Wednesday nights this club is awesome, it fills up with students from all three of Glasgow's Universities (this is a lil rare). there is free entry, and drinks are cheap (from 1 pound, to 1.50 usually). cheesy competitions are held on the stage all night, where students from each uni compete to win points for their university.

    whatever you want
