 | Glasgow West End Reviews | 1 - 7 of 7 | | In the West End you will find the famous Ashton Lane, with it's cobbled streets it is home to many bars and clubs and also has a phenomenal range of unique shops and boutiques set around it. A great place to go for a few drinks any time of the year, during evenings the lane generates an amazing atmosphere like no other, with crowds of people eating and drinking in the fantastic cosmopolitan west end. Jinty McGuinty's is buzzing with live music, an old fashioned Irish pub with a great atmosphere. Or if you prefer something more designer, there is also the stylish new bar and restaurant The Loft, where you may even spot a celebrity! Ashton Lane is a magnet for the many drinkers passing through the West End's busiest vessel. Vodka Wodka is another popular favourite down Ashton Lane with a great beer garden, good food and an amazing selection of drinks to chose from. Brel is a new bar/restaurant situated in a former stable and coach house providing great Belgian food and drink reflecting the best of what's available. There are also free jazz sessions on Saturday afternoons if you fancy it. There is also the stunning Ubiquitous Chip restaurant producing traditional and original recipes of Scotland. The setting is a spectacular covered courtyard with a pool and a more traditional dining room. Or if you enjoy something more non traditional there is also the fantastic Ashoka Indian Restaurant. There is also the renowned Grosvenor Cinema down the lane. Cul de Sac is another restaurant, offering French cuisine you can enjoy a meal in a relaxed atmosphere and take in the surroundings. Named as one of the most attractive streets in the West End, and indeed all of Glasgow by some.

Some nice pubs and restaurants in the West End. Byres Rd heading towards the Western Infirmary, just after you pass the Hillhead SPT station, take left. It is a very small street with some bars, if you go to the end of that street (15m), there is another street with lots of pubs and restaurants. Most of the bars have beer garden. It is a really nice area. Found the area when walking around at 6pm and stayed there all night. Theme: Eating and Drinking

With the huge increase in the student population in this area combined with the many guesthouses and quality student hotels and hostels the regeneration of bars along this strip is quite phenomenal and very recent . Many have live music and neat kitchen menus which do a variety of eclectic menus . There are also some very unusual shops. Worth checking out Theme: People Watching

Hawkhead is right the central core is not that big but if you centre yourself on the charing cross area ,you get all the fun of the west end of charing cross and the student bars/clubs/and casinos, the former being not just for students but is a reflection on the prices you will pay once you get inside. You can get a good value room at etap hotel 3 people in a room for £32 but it is a walk /taxi to the city or you could try www.american.glasgowhostel.pl ,rooms are same price as etap but its not ensuite but it has the huge bonus of a good well equipt kitchen and in the heart of the Charing cross area and 24 hour internet cafe ,which is warm and cheap Theme: OtherAddress: Charing cross where the m8 dissects itDirections: Bath st and Sauchiehall street run parallel through the city, the website given has a good selection of whats on links ,my personel fav. is Nice'n Sleazy and king tuts...www.abcglasgow.com is a good new club also...Website: www.American.glasgowhostel.pl
