 | Glasgow Things To Do | Tips 1 - 10 of 466 | | The KELVINGROVE ART GALLERY AND MUSEUM,is the best and largest museum in Glasgow,or even in the whole United Kingdom and one of best of Europe aswell.Unfortunatelly i didn't see the inside of this nice museum because it is closed for a very big restoration, will be closed for three years and will be open again un summer of 2.006. The most important collection on this museum, was originary all paintings left to the city by Archibald McLellan. There are also other diferents galleries as:Arms and Armour,Archealogy,Natural History,Art,Sculpture and a few more. Apart of the museum, the building is also beautiful and is one of favorite buildings for Glasgwegians, really it looks like an european palace and it worth a visit. Next to the main building ,don't miss a visit to Kelvingrove Park, there is also a very big area for children's playground. This is a picture of Kelvingrove Museum. Away from the traffic, you can look up and admire the beautiful architecture of Glasgow's grand buildings, and nowhere is better to do this than George Square. Its also got lots of information points (see picture), statues and tourist guides, and seats to rest on. Many times in the year it hosts events (like ice skating in winter). Once you have found George Square and Sauchiehall Street, you can find your way around the centre faily easily. On its north side is the Queens Street train Station (for trains north and east) and Buchanan Street (leading to the coach station). Most of interest, is south and west of the Square. Thought provoking. Good to look at from the outside, as well as inside. An inspiring place to be. Opened in 1996, and second only to London, the Gallery mixes modern with neo-classical architecture. Famous for the statue of The Duke of Wellington outside, forever wearing an orange traffic cone (see my other picture for a good close up!) and sometimes other decoration, the site is a must see, for all its social commentary, the traffic cone, the buildings, the exhibits and the people. Rooftop cafe. Also has a cafe with internet access and library, in the basement. provand's lordship is a medieval building built around the 15th century. glasgow's most historic building, this is definitely worth a look as you can take a peek at domestic scottish life during this era. the wonderful thing about the provand's lordship is that it is free (although a small donation can be given). it is thanks to the historic scotland and the provand lordship society that we can enter for free and that this building has been saved from ruin.
