Goharshad Mosque one of the most beautiful & famous Mosque in Iran. It was built by the orders of Goharshad, the wife of Shahrukh in 1418 CE and by the architect Ghavameddin Shirazi. The structure is the first and greatest surviving Persian monument of the 15th century. Its portals continue the Samarkand style of arch within arch, enriched by a succession of bevels and reveals that give it depth and power. This mosque has a large courtyard in the center with four porticos. Beautiful inscriptions in Thulth script (the work of Shahrokh’s son) adorn the walls. The most important section of this mosque is its southern portico which boasts of arches and valuable inscriptions. Along side this portico stand solid minarets with thickness of 6 m., with the same height of the portico itself, which help in supporting the ceiling and prevent the roof from collapsing. The Minarets, merging with the outer corners of the portal screen, extend the ground and, together with the high foundation revetment of marble, give the ensemble the impression of solidity necessary to support its exuberant color. The entire court facade is faced with enamel brick and mosaic faience of the finest quality. The full sacle of colors includes a dominant cobalt blue and turquoise, white, a transparent green, yellow, saffron, aubergine and mirror black-all tones fluctuating through several shades. The patterns, lucid and vigorous, are artfully adapted to their decorative role, whether for eye level panels, or dome ornament meant to be effective at a thousand feet. Monotony is avoided by the energy of the faience floral patterns and brick geometrical schemes; by the emphatic rhythm of the arcades, open galleries and deep recesses; and especially by the striking contrast of the iwans. The Sanctuary iwan is in pure white, while in the other three iwans the ground color of the vault is pale red, carrying large white-outlined kufic inscriptions of light turquoise that appear green against the reddish ground. The whole decor is interlaced with an unusual amount of white, which adds clarity and excitement to the total effect. In the words of Robert Byron: "It needs no acquaintance with other styles to acclaim this court, among the buildings now existing, as the most beautiful example of color in architecture ever devised." The 42.64m double shell dome of the mosque was severely damaged in 1911 in bombings by Russian troops. Disappointedly take Camera is forbidden in Imam Reza Shrine. Imam Reza shrine in center of Mashhad is a complex which contains mausoleum of Imam Reza (January 1, 765 - May 26, 818) was the Seventh descendent of the prophet Muhammad and the eighth Shī'a Imam. There is also museum, library, cemetery, mosque and some other buildings. It's the center of tourism in Iran and between 15 and 20 million pilgrims go to the Imam Reza's shrine every year. Ali ibn Musa alReza was the Musa Kazem's son. his father was martyred in 799 in the prison of Abbasid caliph, Harun rashid, when he was 35, and he was given the responsibility of the Imamate. After the death of Harun rashid 809, his two sons began fighting for control of the Abbasid Empire. One son, Amin, had an Arab mother and thus had the support of Arabs, while his half-brother Mamun had a Persian mother and the support of Persia. Mamun believed that Persia was sympathetic to the Hashemites and asked for Imam Reza to meet him in Merv, Persia. After defeating his brother, Mamun named Imam Reza his successor. He hoped to win Shī'a support through this move. The Mamun was scared of the ever-increasing Imam Reza popularity. At last Mamun poisoned the him through grapes in Tus, on the way back from Merv to Baghdad. The body of Imam Reza was buried in the same parameter where Harun rashid was buried and in the front of his grave. This occurred when Imam Reza was 55 years of age.
