It allows one to see the luxury of almost 100 years ago as the ship sailed the Okanaan lake carrying passengers as well as cargo. The original cost to build was $180,000.00. It remained in service until 1936. In 1949 the City of Penticton bought the ship for $1.00 from the Canadian Pacific Rrailway. She was permanently moored at 1099, Lakeshore Drive west in 1951. I am indebted to the brochure available when you take a self guided tour of the ship, admission is $5.00 per person. Leave a Comment

I include this photo to show the size of the engines that thrust the sternwheeler through the water. Steam at 200psi from the boiler at the front of the ship was led to the engines which in turn drove the pistons that turned the stern wheel and thrust the ship along. Leave a Comment

There were two main decks on the ship, the lower one being for cargo and also the boiler and engine room. The next deck up was for the passengers and the two rooms alreadyshown were on this deck. In between the two saloons was the Dining Room, which looked as ifit could seat 60 people. Alongside the Dining room were cabins and washrooms along one side and the Pantry along the other side. The view includes waht look like the smoke stack of the originally coal fired Boilers. In the distance can be seen the sandy cliffs that are part of the landscape in the valley. The main road from Kelowna to Penticton runs below the cliffs. Leave a Comment

This staircase allowed access form the sallon deck to the Upper or gallery Deck and was in the passenger area of the ship. No need for them to go below, except to leave the ship. Leave a Comment

The Okanagan Valley is full of Wineries and wine tours are a must for travellers coming here. Best time to visit the area is from April to October. (JULY an d AUGUST are peak times). Motels, hotels, and bed and breakfasts are plentiful. The Ironman Canada race is held in Penticton every August and draws up to 2100 participants from all over the world. We have a smaller airport in Penticton and just up the valley in Kelowna is an international airport with service from the US. Leave a Comment

Penticton is has a lake to the North and South. Okanagan Lake is the large lake to the north reported to be home of Ogopogo. Skaha Lake is smaller and to the south in the Okanagan Valley that lead to the State of Washington (highway 97). A canal connects to two lakes. You can innertube down from Skaha to Okanagan for a small amount of money for the tube rental. When I was there it was a nice relaxing way to sunbath. Leave a Comment

Penticton is a small city - more like a large town, located on the southern shore of Lake Okanagan. Okanagan Lake Park is a popular beach in Penticton, nearby the many small motels that dot the nearby streets. Leave a Comment Directions: 5 hour drive east of Vancouver on the east side of the Cascade mountain range. The region is located in the south-central part of British Columbia.
