Popular Transportation | Other Transportation Tips | All Tips (4) From Vancouver, the normal way is via the Coquihalla and Okanagan Connector (Hwys 5, 97C). This takes about 3 1/2 hours to Penticton. The old way (Crowsnest Hwy, Hope-Princeton Hwy, or Hwy 3 depending on who you talk to) takes about 4 hours. It is not recommended in the winter, but offers different views. Hwy 5 is mainly alpine, with a short cut through the Nicola Valley and costs $10. Hwy 3 takes you through the barren, rugged Similkemeen Valley before the alpine Hope-Princeton and is free. I like both. The stretch called 3A from Keremeos to Hwy 97 probably has the best scenery.

You can rent these fancy pedal cars on the beach at Penticton. Gillian and I though of renting one to travel through the Okanagan, but keeping up with traffic might be a problem on the steeper hills ;o))
Their chief advantage is they get phenomenal mileage and have no nasty emmissions, unless of course you've been eatina a lot of chili with beans. Leave a Comment Theme: Bicycle

It was quite convienent to get around in the Apex Village, whether it be for food, equipment rental or getting to the mountain. However, if you live in the condos then it might be a ways walk to the hotels. But if you live in the numerous Inns or hotels it is no problem, everything is within walking distance.

The ride from Vancouver up to Apex in Penticton was quite long. The road was also very dangerous if it was snowing hard. We actually got stuck for about 45 min because the road condition was very bad.
