 | Whistler Transportation | Tips 1 - 10 of 11 | | Popular Transportation | Other Transportation Tips | All Tips (11) I took Perimeter's Whistler Express to Whistler from Vancouver Airport and was glad I did so I could just relax and take in the stunning scenary on the Sea to Sky Highway. The bus runs about every two hours during the shoulder season and more often during summer and ski seasons. The trip takes between 2 and 2 1/2 hours depending on traffic and how many stops it has to make at downtown hotels. Cost was $139 CAD roundtrip. You can be picked up and dropped off at either the Vancouver Airport or any of the downtown YVR hotels. Service is popular so book in advance. We had a 20 passenger bus on the trip up that was quite comfortable and a 15 passenger van on the return. Driver was telling me they adjust equipment based on number of bookings and they use large luxury coaches during peak skiing season. Was rainy with low clouds on the way up, but nice on the trip back down the mountain. Here are some scenes from the trip. I was fortunate to pick the Whistler Mountaineer train from Vancouver to Whistler and I used a LandSea Tours 24-passenger bus for the return trip so that I could see different things on a different route. I booked both trips via LandSea Tours. On the train ride up, I would recommend seats 1A or 1B for the best unobstructed view window although there really are no bad seats. The 1st class car serves a full hot breakfast, wine and snacks on the 2.5 hour trip. There is also an open air car for those that wish to soak up the outside air during the trip.

A free shuttle runs from the village to Marketplace (Village North) to the Upper Village loop, servicing Blackcomb Mountain base lodge. From June 25 through September 5, 2005, free service extends to Lost Lake Park, when parking private cars is prohibited. To encourage use of public transit and discourage travel in single occupant vehicles, the municipality offers free transit on important days throughout the year, including World Earth Day on April 22, Clean Air Day in June, International Car Free Day in September and New Year's Eve. Taking the bus up to Whistler from the Vancouver airport isn't as bad as it may seem. Again, with it being the early season, the bus wasn't entirely full, and thus, that may have contributed to the ease of the trip. The driver has no problems in handling and accomodating your skis and gear. I ended up having a decent driver pointing out different sites along the route on the way out of the city as well. There's just one catch with the bus option. If they say it takes 1.5 hours by bus, interpret that to mean 2 hours. This might be more if the weather is poor as you travel. On the way back to the airport, we almost missed our flight, because we didn't select the safer time. Yet, that is one good thing about the bus, which is that there are a good number of arrivals and departures to select from for you trip. Once you get to the village, all you need is a comfortable pair of shoes. Leave a Comment Theme: Bus

The best way to get to Whistler is to fly into Vancouver and then drive up to the mountain. It is about a 2 hour drive and worth every minute. You take highway 99, 'The Sea to Sky Highway,' and its name describes it perfectly. On one side, you have the pacific ocean, and on the other side you have stunning mountain cliffs that rise straight up from sea level. Numerous waterfalls can be found and often, you will see motorists stopping on the side of the road to better take in the scenery. The biggest waterfall has to be Shannon Falls. It is several hundered feet high and is an amazing site. Once in Whistler, put the car away because you won't need it. Everything is centered around the village, so pack some comfortable walking shoes. If by chance you are staying at a condo right outside the village, there is a shuttle service that will take you into the village and runs until 1 am. Leave a Comment Theme: Airplane

Please note, these buses only run in winter - don't get caught out. A cab is not too expensive though. Theme: Bus

Getting to whistler, requires you to take the sea to sky highway, known as a bad highway, it is very scenic, but can be time consuming. The drive from Vancouver to Whistler, should take you approx.2hrs.Make sure to make stops along the way, to take in the beautiful scenery.Once in whistler, it is very foot friendly, as in you probably wont need your car to get around, you can rely on the Whistler transit, which runs often, or a cab, or the good ol two feet ideal. During the ski season, coach lines offer great deals to and from Whistler from Vancouver's downtown area. Greyhound, for example, charges approximately $35 for a round trip, and passengers can just sit back and enjoy the most scenic drive in Western Canada, the "Sea to Sky Highway". The drive starts at the Main Street Bus Station and takes 2 hours with some short stops on the way, including Lions Bay and Squamish. Departures from Vancouver are frequent and there is no need for reservations. If you want to spend only a day at Whistler, you may consider taking the 1-day Greyhound special, which includes transport, lift ticket and gear rental for one low price. Leave a Comment
