The best way to get to Lahaina is probably by boat, but I have never tried that! The only other way is by motor vehicle - car primarily. The road to and from Lahaina is almost always crowded, has limited passing zones to the south of Lahaina (from Lahaina north to beyond Kaanapali, it is 4-lane), and rarely moves at even the speed limit. Be prepared for that and enjoy the drive - better yet, let your companion drive and enjoy the scenery! Park the car and walk! There are so many of us tourists browsing the shops, it is almost intimidating to drive up Front street! Also, get to some of the shops that are off Front street - there are some really interesting places away from the tourist traps. Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor Home

If you can get a direct flight to Maui's Kahului airport, do it. It may cost a little more, but it will save you time. It's best to rent a car, Maui is pretty easy to drive and you can see more of the island at your pace. Leave a Comment Theme: Airplane

The best way to travel to Lahaina and accross the rest of Maui is by rental car. Rental car gives you the flexibility you need to see the many sites that Maui has to offer. Lahaina is a small town with one main strip. You can walk everywhere you need to go when in Lahaina. Theme: Car/Motor Home

Parking is free on Front Street for three hours if you can get a stall, and yes, they do keep an eye on your car (meaning if you are there for longer you WILL get a ticket. There are several pay lots and if you are having a hard time finding any spots in Lahaina, the pay lot on Dickenson near Wainee seems to fill up later than other lots. They are usually full but you may get lucky. If you are doing an early morning boat trip, look at the free Luakini Street lot first. Your best parking opportunities are in the morning. Arrive in Lahaina between 9 and 10 a.m. and you stand a reasonable chance of getting a street-side stall. There is also a huge 4 hour lot at Lahaina Center. It's free if you buy something at the center. Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor Home
