    This place has the atmosphere of an English pub without all the bad dental work. A pool table and darts area along with a nice selection of ales on tap make this a favorite.

    Replay Lounge: A good place for gigs

  • This is a real kick-ass kind of place for smaller gigs, featuring the likes of Wasted Stacey, Filthy Jim, Floyd the Barber and Arthur Dodge. These are bands, by the way, not local characters who hang out here.

    And if there are no gigs on, you can always play on their pinball machines, they've got about a half dozen, while sipping a Mint Julep.

    Yes, it's a pinball arcade that hosts bands and serves cocktails...the kind of thing you can only find in Lawrence!

    Other places for music in town (with more info coming soon) include the Jazzhaus at 926 1/2 Mass and the Bottleneck at 737 New Hampshire.

  • This is a college town and there are many bars to choose from. Massachusetts Street has several great bars. Jonny's is just on the north side of the river across from downtown. The Wheel is right next to campus and was a great resting place between classes.

    This tiny little shack has no real bar - just a few kegs on tap and lots of cans and bottles. It's right down the street from some frat and sorority houses and you can see them crammed into the fenced back area on the weekends.

    This building used to be a theater downtown, but like most old-style theaters it went out of business. Mid-90s it was turned into a dance club/live music venue. Best memory ever was wandering in late one evening and bumping into a goth vampire chick who confessed to liking to suck blood and watching her ignore her dress-wearing male companion while we went dancing for a few hours.

    This place is technically a biker bar, but serves big burgers for lunch and hosts the college crowd in the evenings. It's about the only decent bar in the North side of the town, but be careful stumbling home. At least one student has gone missing after wandering too close to the river.
