 | Winfield Things To Do | Tips 1 - 3 of 3 | | Popular Things To Do | Other Things To Do Tips | All Tips (3) Each year during the third weekend of September, the city of Winfield triples in size - most of those temporary residents abiding in tents, trailers, and campers at the county fairgrounds. The occasion is The Walnut Valley Festival - largest of its type anywhere. The event originated as a bluegrass festival but now includes a pleasant mix of traditional music genres played on accoustic instruments: folk, Celtic, old-time, country, swing, cowboy, and much that defies pigeon-holing. Approximately thirty acts perform from Thursday thru Sunday on four stages, and jam sessions may start up about anytime of the day or night, anywhere. It's a ball - more fun than you can shake a stick at. See my travelogues for additional pictures from this event. Directions: The Cowley County Fairgrounds on the west edge of Winfield on US Hwy 160.Website: www.wvfest.com

IF YOU ARE LUCKY ENOUGH TO VISIT THIS LITTLE TOWN, I GUARANTEE YOU WILL BE AMAZED BY THE TRUELY DIVERSE ARCHITECTURAL STYLES YOU WILL FIND THERE. YOU MAY BE DRIVING DOWN THE STREET AND NOTICE A BEAUTIFUL VICTORIAN STYLE HOME STANDING RIGHT NEXT DOOR TO AN ENGLISH COLONIAL, OR A TUDOR, OR AN OLD STYLE CARRIAGE HOUSE! IT IS AWESOME! WE STAYED THERE FOR ABOUT TWO MONTHS, AND WE NEVER FAILED TO BE IN TOTAL AWE WHEN WE DROVE DOWN THE MAIN ROAD TOWARD THE LIBRARY AND COLLEGE. THIS TOWN IS FULL OF SOME OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL AND DIVERSE HOMES I HAVE SEEN ANYWHERE! Address: ALL AROUND TOWN
