This little store was amazing - locked in a time warp. Whatever you could imagine both from decades ago to current times, you would probably find in this store. The old wood floor boards support original counter displays which create aisles through this two roomed store. Anything from ribbons, cottons and embroidery, tools, kitchenware, mouse traps, cards, hair nets, electrical items, bric a brac and just the amazing odds and sods you can think of. If you can't find it anywhere else, you may just find it here. The owner, Mr Bewley, is in his 70's, bent over and hard of hearing and still going strong. His day starts at 7.00am when he unlocks the door and closes when the last person has driven away from the square.
Bewley's is such a rarity. Most little stores have disappeared with the onslaught of the bigger and glitzier stores. It is apparently the only variety store left in Fannin County. Mr and Mrs Bewley bought the store in 1970 and have been running it every since. They at one time had 3 others but only now keep one in Commerce. There doesn't seem to be any thought of retiring. The locals obviously love him and visitors who visit are just intrigued with this little gem.
