    Old Santa Fe Depot
  • Tip Rating:
  • The old depot celebrated its 100th birthday in 2001. The first depot built in 1886 was burnt to the ground in 1900. A replacement was built in 1901. A train wreck later that year almost demolished the building.

The towns people decided to move the depot to its present location (150 yards NE) and place it on a concrete foundation. Over the year the depot has undergone many renovations but the latest has tried to restore the building to its original look.

    The Pace House
  • Tip Rating:
  • This is one of two turn of the century houses in Heritage Park. This old Texas Victorian farmhouse was built in 1895.

The house was moved to this spot and has been an ideal setting for hundreds of wedding, receptions, reunions and meetings since it was reopened in 1986.

    Downtown Square Plaza
  • Tip Rating:
  • This little square plaza sits in the heart of downtown Garland. In early December the community celebrates the lighting of the Christmas Tree which sits in what usually is a pond right in the centre.

At this time of year, the water is turned off and the pond is drained. This historic downtown Garland square dates back to the nineteenth century and was rated in the top 10 in the state by Texas Highways.

    Garland Civic Theatre
  • Tip Rating:
  • This little theatre performs many well known productions throughout the year for the North Dallas community. You almost miss it on the side of the square as there are no neon’s or large signs to show that its even there.

    The Clock Tower
  • Tip Rating:
  • The limestone clock tower was built to represent a reflection of a vintage railroad station. In the old days, clock towers were a part of town squares and train stations.

This particular one is on the site of the Dart Park and Ride.

  • This restored Laso Lyle home (described as 'matchbox style' )is in Heritage Park. It looks like an oversized doll house.

    Railfandom
Being a railfan I just had to go by the depot and take a look at the Dallas Garland Northeastern depot with its locomotives waiting to go to work.
