 | Houston Eating / Drinking Reviews | Tips 1 - 10 of 12 | | Houston's nightlife changes regularly, new bars and lounges open every week, and the crowd changes just as often, it's hard to keep up with, and the main concern is "How's the crowd?" A nice quiet place for a great glass of wine is The Wine Bucket, low music, no pick up crowd, this place has an extensive wine menu, as they should, it's all they serve!!

Nothing fancy here at this Irish bar, billed as Houstons First Sports Bar. Good food and good beer! Bass on tap.

After being designated for several years as a "hole in the wall" trashy bar, Crazy Frogs Saloon moved to a bigger location, put some money into the place, and got a decent bar menu. Now it is a fairly good place to hang out at, grab a few drinks, and chat with friends while up on the Northwest side of town. The bar is located towards the back, wih many tables and chairs in the front. They have pool tables and dart boards to one side, and a stage on the other for their frequent karaoke nights. Televisions are placed all over the bar in order to keep up with your favorite sports events. And if your feeling hungry, as I said, they have a decent menu, but it consists of mostly burgers and sandwiches, quite a few fried finger foods, and some basic salads. This is by no means a really classy place, the atmosphere is very casual. But again, if you're up on this side of town, it's a good bar to visit.

As you probably read in my nightlife tips, as well as a couple restaurants, the Kirby Lane area of town very close to Rice University is one of my favorite places to hang out in the Houston area. If you are here, I would recommend getting your ice cream fix at Ben and Jerry's scoop shop on Kirby Drive. I guess there is not much to say about ice cream shops, but if you are going to eat ice cream, Ben and Jerry have cornered the market on goodness! Leave a Comment

If you are in the mood for a little pub fare, and a Sherlock Holmes type atmosphere, than look no further. Baker St. Pub keeps the look and feel of an English Pub to go with Bryan O'Neills Irish Pub next door, and the Kelvin Arms Scottish Pub down the street. I guess rice students really like Pubs! I really enjoyed their onion rings and their burger was delicious. As always wash it down with a Guiness. Leave a Comment

The best bar in Houston, I say this because it is very cool and because i used to go to the one in nyc. i was excited to find out that the original is in houston. It is the gingerman..in rice village. it is between rice and university on morningglory or something like that....very easy to find...it will have all the cars around it and look like someone's house with bouncers. We stopped for a lunch at BJ’s restaurant / brewery. Very pleased with the food and beer selection, house brews – hefeweizen, brown ale, porter, red and pale ale. Also Saint Arnold Summer pils, Celis White, Sierra Nevada IPA, Paulaner and cider. Belgian bottled brews are also availalable. while America's restaurant is very good and a great place to eat, there is also a great bar there, with a really good ambiance, that is a nice place to have a drink or two, to perhaps wind down after a day of shopping or working!
Everytime I go, you basically see everyone wearing whatever. Leave a Comment Theme: Eating and DrinkingDirections: In the Galleria area, on Post Oak Blvd.

The long wall with the 80 different beer-tap nozzels and a fine selection bottled beers (+200) and the classy interior make this bar one off the must see's in downtown Houston. Leave a Comment Theme: Eating and DrinkingAddress: 705 Main St.Phone: 713-228-7468Directions: Downtown Houston

Onion Creek tries to strike a balance between bar / resturant / lounge / coffee house. It's one of those experiments that could have gone all wrong. Located in the Historic Heights District of Houston, away from the more well known entertainment areas; is where this Frankenstein experiment in food and drink made its home. If you're new to Houston, this place is definitely worth checking out. The crowd is lower 20's to mid 30's. None of them seem to be on the pull, so it's a more relaxing atmosphere. The crowd seems to have more of a liberal leaning than what you would expect from Texas. Though, not as liberal as some bars / lounges in the Montrose area. Which can be a good thing. It also seems to avoid the other extreme, the FratHead, loud, drunk and screaming mentality of a Texas IceHouse. Im not trying to make this place sound pretentious, but this place has class. Onion Creek tries to be many things. On the porch, is a beer well and a bar-b-que pit. They're selling steak, potatos and beer like the place was a regular Texas Ice House. Inside you can get various Coffee drinks, and a menu so vegetarian friendly that you would swear that the owner was a Vegan and only ate home made couscous. The interior has plush couches, and candles. Which is in stark contrast to the outside's picnic tables and wooden stools. This is more of an After-Work spot than a late night spot. Catching an early evening here would definitely be a treat if you're from out of town. If you're a local, it's a nice change of pace from the generic downtown entertainment district.
Casual. Wear what you want. Leave a Comment Theme: Eating and DrinkingAddress: 3106 White OakPhone: 713.880.0706Directions: Houston, Heights
