  • When traveling anywhere I would suggest traveling lite, if at all possible. You don't want to weight yourself down with all that luggage, do you? If you must, then Samsonite is a great product with plenty of storage space and handy little locks are provided with newer models for transport safety.

Please do yourself a favor and dress as if its summer everyday! This town is well-known for it's better than average heat waves. Sandals are a big plus. Shorts are a must. If you have to wear your nice clothes, try wearing stuff with rayon or silk material in them. These will surely keep you cool.

A good tip in this area is a First Aid Kit.

I prefer digital cameras myself but there are wide varieties of cameras available you should be able to find anywhere in the nation. I suggest checking prices at www.pricewatch.com Not only do they have the best pricing on computer stuff but they also have electronic goodies too. Also try www.pricegrabber.com.

Camping is null and void in Houston unless you're looking to get picked up by our local police. You can travel abroad to Big Bend but then why come to Houston? Galveston is o.k. people, but nothing to write home about. The beach is blah and the restaurants are o.k. You're best bet for a nice time is to visit the shops along the 'Strand', as the buildings do have a New Orleans appeal, and some of the shops and restaurants along the beach park strip are decent too.

If there is a thunderstorm warning in the area of Galveston get out of there man! That is the last place you want to be in that case.

  • For the summer months (April - December) bring shorts - it's extremely hot and humid here from about June through September. In the winter (January - March) you'll need a sweater (most of us don't own a coat!). We do get a fair amount of rain in some areas during the months of April, May and June.

    Suntan lotion is a must!

Chain-o-Lakes is a great camping location! You can rent a cabin, bring your motorhome or a tent. There's fishing, bike-cycling, swimming, and horseback riding! I think you would enjoy yourself here. Their website is www.colresort.com/famind.html

  • Light airy clothing. It is quite humid. From what I understand it gets really unbearable in the summer due to the high heat and humdity.

  • Depends on your stay of course.

Tank tops and shorts during the summer. If the heat doesn't get you, the humidity will.

If you're coming from up north and it's dry, just be sure to drink plenty of water. You will sweat a river if you're not use to the humidity.

Anything will work here. There's always a shop for film/batteries and there's alway a socket to plug in the recharger

You're best bet is to wear light colored clothes that will breathe easily. Plus DON'T forget the sunblock.

Just carry a water bottle if you're not use to the heat and humidity.

Weather Related Clothing: It's a Jungle Out There...
It's hot. It rains. That's just Houston. There are two seasons: Summer and Spring. Spring is about January-April. After April, until December, it's hot. Make sure you bring plenty of sun screen.

Let me repeat: It rains. Sometimes all day. Sometimes 5 minutes a day for 3 months. When it rains all day it floods-and fast. Be careful! I carry a small umbrella in my purse and car at all times. You may think about it too.
