They have daily specials, and I liked what I had there the time I went which was a Bratwurst Sandwich with saurkraut, potatoes, and a cup of broccoli soup. I have since found a dish that I like Oma's a dish with a chicken or pork cutlet in a cream sauce. I also love the bread pudding. We drove to Plano to see where my SIL worked, and saw this restaurant. My daughter said that it was good, but we didn't get to eat there. She said it had 'food that you've never heard of', so I went to the website to see what kinds of things they had. Under favorite dishes are some foods that I never heard of. The website had this recipe Ginger Rice A mainstay sidedish at Blue Mesa that gets its unique flavor from ginger and basil pesto. Serves 8 ? cup butter 2 tablespoons sushi ginger, drained and chopped 2 tablespoons fresh garlic, minced ? cup yellow onions, diced 2 cups rice, Uncle Ben's Converted ? cup coconut milk 4 cups water 1 teaspoon Kosher salt 1/8 teaspoon white pepper 1 tablespoon basil pesto

This is a very nondescript restaurant tucked away in a small block of shops.. nothing much to look at from the outside. Inside is very relaxed and casual.. no dressing up to visit here but its cosy and very popular. Once you have dined here, you will understand why. The restaurant serves fish/seafood, steak and chicken and definitely has a Louisiana flavour to a lot of their dishes. The service was good and the staff have a very good knowledge of the various dishes with good recommendations. On different nights there are ‘All You Can Eat Specials’ depending on the day and what’s on special (i.e. Peel and Eat Shrimp, Deep Fried Oysters, Deep Fried Catfish Fillets). The restaurant is licensed but you have to produce membership or at least a Unicard to order. Reservations are not necessary and take out is available. They also sell fresh seafood to take out.
We started with crawfish etoufee as an starter which we shared as it was a reasonable size. It was as good as what we had had in New Orleans. Next was the Baked Salmon with Basil Cream Sauce and the Fishmonger’s Pontchartrain (their special). The latter was a choice of fish (Tilapia or Mahi Mahi) topped with sautéed shrimp, crabmeat, scallions and mushrooms. Grilled or blackened. I chose blackened for the extra spice and it was very good. The Baked Salmon though was to die for. Perfectly cooked and oh that sauce was heaven. Simply the best salmon dish either of us had ever had. Both meals were served with either cole slaw or green salad along with fries and a small bowl of black beans and rice. Of course I ended up with my doggy box since I never get through the quantity served. The Key Lime pie is also delicious. Leave a Comment Theme: SeafoodComparison: about averageAddress: 1915 N. Bangkok City in Plano has been open since Sept 2002 and it is excellent. The ambiance is tasteful and not overwhelming. The service is attentive and helpful. The food... ah well, what can I say, we would go back in a heartbeat. As an appetiser, the Imperial spring rolls are wonderful. If you are sick of the fried version, try these. They are shrimp wrapped with vegetables in a rice wrapper and served with a sweet and sour dipping sauce. We also had the Thai dumplings as an appetiser which were very good as well - with an additional dish of chilli. Our main was the Volcano chicken - excellent. If you have room left try the deep fried ice cream - different from anything else I have had. This has a light coating with coconut and topped with strawberries in a sauce. Very much recommended. The owner is a delight as well.
As an entre (appetiser) the Imperial spring rolls - they come in 4. Little rolls of crisp vegetables with fresh shrimp and thin noodles wrapped in clear rice paper which come with a light sweet-and-sour sauce. Also the Thai Dumplings which came in five won-ton-wrapped balls filled with an interesting mix of seasoned ground pork and shrimp highlighted with crispy chestnuts which came with an interesting spicy sauce which can be spiced up even more with an additional bowl of chilli. Absolutely delicious. Our main was Volcano Chicken. Which incidentally is one of the Chefs recommendations. This was breaded, deep fried chicken with a special chilli sauce on top which came with steamed and crunchie vegetables - exceptional. This is a little coffee shop just behind the main strip in downtown. It is in some new buildings where shops are going in on ground floor and apartments on the upper floors. They sell sandwiches, bagels, cinnamon rolls, muffins and a range of speciality coffees and teas. The smell of coffee was wonderful and I had the best banana muffin I think I have ever had. The walnuts on the top tasted like they had been roasted and gave a really wonderful flavour. . This is my favourite salad restaurant. The selection is amazing and its not just salads but if you need your fix, this is the place to go. For around $6 - $8 you can get as much as you can eat, Lunch or dinner. .
There is an amazing salad bar with all sorts of accompaniments and sauces. They also have about 5 choices of wonderful soups – my favourite being their Tortilla Soup. There is also a choice of hot food such as lasagne, macaroni cheese, mashed potato and pastas. On the bread section there is sour dough garlic bread (and you smell that when you walk in), hot Harvest Bran and Sourdough breads, muffins and Sicilian-style pizza. There is also rotisseried chicken. Don’t forget dessert too – if you can fit it after all that. Everything from fresh fruit to chocolate and tapioca puddings, Triple Decadence Chocolate Brownies, frozen soft serve and whatever their dessert of the week is. . Leave a Comment
