There are many ways to get to Bellingham, as well as leave. Like most cities, we do have schedueled arrivals and departures.

North Bellingham has a local international airport.
You can fly to and from Seattle, via Horizon Air, which is also affiliated and partnered with Alaska Airlines. We also have another airlines, which flies to Las Vegas non-stop as well.

We also have the local buses WTA, aka Whatcom Transportaion Authority, which run thoughout the city. The main hub is in the central business district of Bellingham.

South Bellingham, has Fairhaven Station, located in Fairhaven, which has most of the needed amenities needed to get to and from bellingham. You can take the Amtrak, from Seattle, or from Vancouver to get to Bellingham. Prices normally go for about $50-60 .

You can also take the greyhound bus here as well. Prices vary from about $40-60.

Both the train station and bus station are centrally located in the same area. It also connects with the Alaskan Cruise Ferry terminal, Which shuttles people and their vehicles to and from Alaska.

Squalicum Harbor has moreage for visitors
  • Tip Rating:
  • The Port of Bellingham has the largest Boat harbor north of the Seattle Area. The Port of Bellingham also has a boat harbor in Blaine.
This picture is of Squalicum Harbor, the Port of Bellingham's largest, on Bellingham Bay. They have short term moreage along with 3 boat ramps.
There are a few restaurants to choose from, the regional Anthony's is a favorite, but the locally owned Marina is also very good.
The US Coast Guard has a full service facility in the harbor as well.

    Bus System
Bellingham has a pretty good bus system, if you're visiting and don't have a car. The station is downtown on Railroad Ave, where you can catch a bus to just about anywhere in Whatcom County. They are wheelchair accessible and if you're a cyclist, you can latch your bike to the front. 50 cents a ride. In Fairhaven they run a very cute bus modelled after a trolley. They only get crowded on the routes that serve the University during peak hours.

    Zuanich Park
  • Tip Rating:
  • Small park located in the marina district of Bellingham. Has a very scenic view of Bellingham bay , and the adjoining views of the waterfront and the marina. Across the way is the Hotel Bellwether. There is also a statue that is dedicated to the lost fishermen, that have never returned home.

    Ski to Sea Race
  • Tip Rating:
  • During the Ski to Sea Festival (Memorial Day weekend), on Sunday a race is held from the Mt. Baker Ski area to Marine Park in Fairhaven (Southern part of Bellingham). The race starts w/ cross country skiing, then downhill, then running 7 miles down the mountain, then biking to Everson where the batton is handed off to a canoe. The Canoe goes as far as Ferndale and then hands off to a mountain biker who bikes to Bellingham Bay and hands off to a sea kayaker who kayaks accross Bellingham Bay to Fairhaven. The kayaker runs up the beach and rings a bell to end the race for his team.

    Zuanich Point Park
  • Tip Rating:
  • This place is a good starting point for your visit to Bellingham. The park is at the main harbor, and there is plenty of parking & also stores & restaurants to look at. But the main reason to visit the park is to get a nice view of Bellingham, the adjacent mountains & the Puget Sound & San Juan Islands.

Make sure you bring a coat because it's often freezing cold from a stiff breeze that blows in. There's not much else to see except for the boats & a memorial to fishermen that have been lost. This place was a huge fishing town, & fishing is still a major industry here.

Here's a website for the "Safe Return" fisherman's memorial:
    http://www.safereturn.org/fishermen%20memorial/welcome.html<br />
During the summer, the park is a nice place to play frisbee or just hang out.
